The lcd panel on the flash unit lights up but there is no text on the screen, the unit was working fine turned it off and then turned it back on and found that it was no longing working. Changed cameras, power cords and checked the bulb (which looks ok to me).
Can built in flashes be repaired if they've blown out? If so...how?

Spontaneous triggering may be the result of a regulator failure or running on a too high line voltage (if the unit survives). Test outlet with a lamp or circuit tester. Check line voltage setting on flash unit (if it is not too late..!).

It MAY not be too late, but I'd take it to a service center for a look rather than opening it up yourself, as very high voltage can be stored in the capacitors-even if it's been off for days! Whether it's worth repairing is predicated on the original price; if it cost under say, US$ 60 or so, I'd replace it.
