Question about Panasonic (UJDA750) CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Combo) Burner
I have a Toshiba Satellite A10 with a matshita ujda750 DVD/cdrw combo drive. For some unknown reason it does not recognise DVDs. Basicly when I insert a DVD it's as if there is no disc in the drive. Interesting enough I can still burn & player standard CD's. I have uninstalled the drivers and windows detects the drive & reinstalls the drivers, and this doesn't fix the problem.
This fixed my problem. Give it a go, I have access and am using my burner once more.
Note: The solution provided requires editing of the registry.

This is a software problem I believe since I have the same problem, but I was able to partially fix it.
I suddenly lost the recognition of the laptop built in Matshita UJDA760 CD drive, it was not recognized by in "my computer". I went to a forum and downloaded a file:"sa55audiox.exe" from cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com.
Now it recognizes my CD drive. I uploaded new audio drivers from Toshiba. I can now see my CD drive in My computer". read files off my CD drive but when I run Itunes or play music CD, I can see that the music is being played in grahic equalizer, but now sound. Well at least I got my CD drive recognized. Hope this helps at least half way.

I am not 100% on this but in some drives there is a dual laser, one dvd the other cd, and the dvd laser may be worth tryng to clean with a cd cleaner, but, if yours only has the one, it maybe that the laser is faulty. The reason why it can read cd's is that the trackes are much wider apart and make it easier for the information to be read, but when it comes to DVD's the tracks are much closer and difficult for the laser to read, especially if missaligned.

Tips for a great answer:
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps
