Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook
Aftr powering up windowsXP flag flashes as it normally would, but after all I get is a black screen with the cursor in the center of the screen. The Caps and Num locks are fine ...so keyboard etc... are initializing and cursor moves with mouse pad. any ideas would be gratly appreciated.
Have you tried going to safe mode? or safe mode with networking? you can also try to run chkdsk /r on the recovery console,to do this, insert your xp cd,restart, press f12 to go to the boot menu, choose cd/dvd rom, press any key to boot to cd,after loading, press R for repair to go to recovery console, choose number 1 for the windows installation folder, leave password blank, type chkdsk /r press enter, this will take a while, after that type fixboot, press enter, continue, press Y,you might also try to run diagnostics first by pressing FN and Power button at the same time while its off,if it cant find the diagnostic partitition, you can boot to your resource cd or drivers and utilities cd

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
