Have you added or removed any hardware on your system recently? Did you change to bios by actident. Make sure you have the HD selected to boot in the Bios.

    Keep my updated.

    Thanks and good luck

Have you tried going to safe mode? or safe mode with networking? you can also try to run chkdsk /r on the recovery console,to do this, insert your xp cd,restart, press f12 to go to the boot menu, choose cd/dvd rom, press any key to boot to cd,after loading, press R for repair to go to recovery console, choose number 1 for the windows installation folder, leave password blank, type chkdsk /r press enter, this will take a while, after that type fixboot, press enter, continue, press Y,you might also try to run diagnostics first by pressing FN and Power button at the same time while its off,if it cant find the diagnostic partitition, you can boot to your resource cd or drivers and utilities cd

Why a black screen on xps l701x w7 i7 1.73

Black screen - no flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - no picture at all, i.e. the initial Dell start-up screen doesn't show up either:
- LCD is dead or isn't getting a signal - not an easy fix; or
- the LCD isn't being sent a signal - holding down the function [Fn] key and press display Function key to toggle through its settings (LCD panel only, Rear VGA output only, both LCD and VGA output)

Black screen - flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - the screen goes black after the windows loading screens come up but before the windows login screen comes up - it is probably a windows video driver problem. Try starting in Windows Safe Mode with VGA. Press [F8] after the Dell startup screen disappears to access the windows startup menu

When I turn my comp on, I get the Dell screen, then a black screen with a flashin cursor. When pressing f8 for safe-mode, nothing happens. Just a black screen with flashing cursor. Please help

Unplug all external USB devices to your computer and power it back up again.

If you can start the computer, then you probably have a faulty USB device connected to your computer.

Dell Inspiron 6400 - Screen visibility problems

This could be a faulty video cable or connector or CCFL lamp or inverter.
Try reseating the video cable/connector that connects to the motherboard first.
If this doesn't work then to determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Blank screen appears on the startup with only cursor on it

The Acer Recovery CDs do not set the Boot flag on the hard drive. I had to manually set the boot flag to on using GPARTED Live. After restarting using the GPARTED CD, you can manage the flags under the partition drop down and click on the Boot flag. After exiting GPARTED, I rebooted the laptop and no more black screen....fixed!!
I hope this helps others.

Dell Inspiron 6400 Black Screen Problem

Flashing - ON -Flashing indicates a problem with the LCD. Reseat the LCD cable connection to the motherboard, then see if the problem is resolved. If not, disconnect the LCD from the motherboard, and connect and external monitor, see if the system posts normally (You may need to toggle Fn +F8 for external video) if it posts, the LCD/LCD inverter is bad. If it doesn't, the motherboard is bad.
