Question about ATI RADEON 9250 256MB PCI (Retail) Graphic Card

EA Game ''Spore'' - Videocard & Driver Issue

I just loaded Spore onto my computer:

HP Pavillion: 3Ghz, 1Gb Ram, Win XP 2002 Version Sp 3
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9250 256 Mb, Pixel Shader 4.0

When I try to run the game it tells me my video card does not meet the min spec. I tried to search for new drivers using the device manager and was told there are no better drivers than I have currently.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is or know of a fix?

Let me know if you need any more details.

Thank you

Well, I can solve it but it is somewhat bad news. Basically your video card is not powerful enough. Here are the ATI specs from the EA website;

  • ATI Radeon™ series
  • 9500, 9600, 9800
  • X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
  • X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
  • 2400, 2600, 2900
  • 3450, 3650, 3850, 3870,
  • 4850

    and here are NVIDIA
  • NVIDIA GeForce series
  • FX 5900, FX 5950
  • 6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
  • 7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
  • 8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
  • 9600, 9800, GTX 260, GTX 280
I would recommend buying a new video card. You can pick up a NVIDIA 8400 thru 8600 for about $30 or $40 from or sometimes cheaper with rebate.

They are fairly easy to install.

    Good Luck.

If I play any games not open

Good day. In regards to your problem you can try this several steps for you to know why you cant play any games.

    1. Before you install a game you need to make sure that your computer meets the Minimum Requirement for each game.

    2. You can check if your pc has the latest or the recommended direct X version for all games required this one. The accepted direct x for most game is at least DirectX 9.0c

    3. You can check you're direct x version by doing these steps
    > go to Start
    > click on run
    > type in dxdiag and press OK
    > it will open a screen that will tell u the directx version of your pc
Note: if you don't have at least a 9.0c version might as well download it from the net

    4. If you're computer has the updated direct x you need to check you're video card
    5. Base on my experience most of the games require this computer spec

AT least a Dual core processor 2.6ghz
    1GB Ram
    Nvidia 9200 or better

So you might also check this site to check if your pc can run a specific game :

Hope this help you a bit regarding your game issue for your pc. Thanks for using Fixya and have a great day.

1 GB of ram? Check the software for minimum PC system requirements. It will say how many MHz is necessary to play the game.It will also give you what video card (min),RAM(min),DirectX (7 or Higher?) this game requires MINIMUM to run.Quite often the game will run,but poorly.Your AMD 2200 runs at 1800 which isn't lightening fast, but sufficient.I think the addition of at least 1 more GB of RAM is what you need,a total of 3GB would really make the computer happy when playing games.
Run this program from Microsoft to test your current memory for errors.
My computer is much like yours,I have XP Media-The 8600 card,a dual core 2.8 processor and 3GB of RAM.This setup will run a online racing game without hick ups at 1152 x 864 resolution. When I only had 1GB of RAM it would stutter like it was constantly trying to load the program,so I added another Gig and it started playing allot better. It couldn't keep up with Halo online until I added another 1GB for a total of 3GB.I am using a 32x version of XP,going to a 64x setup would improve performance even more.
Sorry,I'm talking too much.Try the RAM after you test what you have, you'll be glad you did!

I just wanna kno if my GTA4 is gonna work smooth in full grafics with this card..

Well without knowing the card, i can tell you this.
I have a 8800gt 512mb, 4gb's ram and a 3ghz c2d e6600 and i get an average 42fps using the in game benchmark. It depends really what resolution you want to play at. I play at 1440 x 900. You would need at least a nvidia 8600gts or Ati equivalant card to play the game. Also a core 2 duo is definately needed to play this game smoothly- better yet if you have a core 2 quad. If you are using a laptop then I could almost certainly guess that it wont work. If you have a pc using intel graphics then it wont work either.

According to ATI this is a known issue. They refer problems to microsoft about this error as they say it is an o/s issue. Microsoft refers you back to ATI saying it is a thermal issue. I have an ATI card as well & have the same problem. Hopefully the next driver will fix this issue when released. Hope this helps.

    Game graphical error

Wierd, I had this problem once, updating my driver simply fixed it. Do this: 1) Remove all nvidia products and drivers from your computer. 2) Reboot computer of course. 3) Go to Nvidi'as website and download the correct latest driver for your graphics card. 4) Reboot again. 5) Go test the game.
