Question about Gateway FPD1760 Monitor

2 Answers

Monitor My monitor is so fuzzy and jumpy its very difficult to read. I bought my Gateway Computer from Best Buy in March of 06 so this should not be happening. I took it to Best Buy today and they replaced the cable to the monitor but that does not solve the problem.

First of all, your computer is 6 years old! Time to replace it. Period. When you do have a problem, please explain in finer detail what you perceive as the problem. I have never seen an jumpy computer. I have seen monitor flicker, loss of color, out of range, etc., but never a jumpy computer. Are you talking about the computer (box) itself or the monitor? Is there an earthquake going on causing the computer to bounce up and down? Help us help you by being more informative on you needs.

Try another monitor to determine if the trouble is in the monitor or the computer's video circuitry. If it's due to the computer, install a new video card or replace the current one.

If the monitor is at fault, it is possible that bad capacitors in its power supply might be causing the problems, or there may be poor solder connections. Both are typical failures in many products. But given the relatively low cost of monitors today, repair is often uneconomical. Not too many shops will even attempt repairs. There's not a lot you can do except to replace the it.

Yes, it's only a couple of years old, and you have every right to feel "this should not be happening." But the sad fact is that consumer products are very cheaply made these days. Once a product is past its warranty period, the manufacturer doesn't care any more. That's also why stores push you to buy replacement warranties when you purchase a product.

How do i unlock menu on screen?

Not difficult, but it's time consuming to goose chase a few things. You need to go the back on the monitor and read the electrical label. It will have UL (number) on it. Write it down. Go to the UL site and look up the UL number on the directory and it will tell you who made the monitor for Gateway. Go to the mfrs website and download a similar manual for the same size monitor as yours and read it, it will tell you exactly how to unlock the menu, if the Gateway manual didn't.

Difficult to say as there are several possibilities. First would be to narrow them down. You may have already tried this, but wipe all dust off of the screen to see if that helps.(Do Not spray liquids on you monitor, if a cleaning agent is necessary, use a damp wipe to remove debris. If a single drop gets past the monitor's bezel in the wrong place, it will cook the monitor or worse, cook you.) If that didn't work, then, if possible, run the monitor on another computer. If that clears things up, I would suspect either a driver or hardware issue with the computer. If the screen is still fuzzy on another computer, then it is definitely the monitor. As CRT's age, many things happen. One is that the phosphor wears out from being shot at by the electron gun and start to go dim and then fuzzy as the intensity is increased by the user to make things brighter. Another thing that ages is the high voltage transformer. As the transformer weakens, it is no longer able to shoot a sharp beam of energy and begins to splatter a bit of energy on the surrounding pixels which would make the screen appear fuzzy. If the CRT has controls for adjusting intensity, contrast, saturation (those are sometimes hidden behind a small panel) tweak them one at a time remembering where the original setting was to see if that clears things any. ***DISCLAIMER*** (Note: Some monitors have the controls inside. If you are not experienced with adjusting high voltage devices DO NOT DO IT!!! A monitor is not worth your life, and if you disrespect high voltage even by accident, the potential is there to kill you!) Above all things, BE SAFE, and then choose what is best for you to do. Best of luck.

Fuzzy screen on Gateway FPD1975W TFT LCD Monitor

With the pixels acting up and the monitor having the same problem on any computer that its connected to. The screen itself is bad and since there are no replacement screens for that monitor, you would have to buy a new monitor or get it replaced if its under warranty.
