My ford focus 1.6 zetec se is missfireing on the 4th cylinder and the engine management light is on i have already done the spark plugs and leads but it is sparking any ideas thanks

Could also be a vac leak or problem with the fuel injector.

SOURCE: what Bosch super 4 spark plug fits a Ford Focus 1.6 zetec.

my advise don't get those, they don't work as well as you think they do.
if you think about it if they are so much better why don't drag racers use them?
because they actually block the ignition point.

just get the factory style plugs and you will be better off.

this sounds like a computer related problem for the vehicle
the electronic spark system is not getting the signal from the computer to keep its self in flaux check the spark plug houseing unit this can be done with an omh tester to make sure that its getting continuity
the other thing is make sure you that your spark plugs wires are firmly pressed into position on spark and spark plug houseing if there not seated they wont fire
make sure capasitor is not faulty these tend to ware out

you can set the gap by using the new spark plug casing papar thikness.try it and it will work

get a plug spanner (more a socket than a spanner) and after removing the plug lead, use the spanner to remove the plug. Do one at a time so you dont get the leads mixed up or it will not start.

well 2nd is spark
first is:
if engine is good and compression test pass, it may be good engine.
CAM TIMED CORRECT, COMPRESSION 150PSI UP, NOT 50.

then comes spark all 4 cylinders must have spark (tested)
so coil packs, not connected
or CKP OR CMP SENSORS UNPLUGGED OR WRECKED AT INSTALL. ALL ENGINE HARNESS CABLES MUST BE FULLY CONNECTED,.for sure parks, injectors and all sensor.s.


LAST IS FUEL (PRESSURE AT SPEC. CRANKED

For the South African market, the 1.6L BZ inline-four engine was used in their Mk2
to get help on any engine problem learn what it there first
the real name and then tell it.

Hi.

You should do a diagnostic with a scan tool first.

Probably an ignition coil problem. Replace it and replace also the spark plugs.

Timing belt slipped on 2003 1.6 focus need the timing marks

there are no timing marks as such on the focus mate you have to lock the cams with a setting bar (to do this you need to remove the rocker cover and lock the cams with a locking bar)
the crank is locked up by removing a plug behind the oil pump on the back of the engine (the crank needs to be at top dead center on number 1 cylinder and this can be done by removing number 1 spark plug and using a long piece of welding wire or screwdriver, place in to the cylinder and turn over until the piston is at the top)
with the cams locked and the crank locked your engine will be timed up

Misfire on cylinder 4 only when accelerating

Try a compression test. You could have a bent valve or a bad ring on the piston. If the compression test shows it to be much lower than the other cylinders then its a mechanical problem. The valve may not be seating or a weak spring isn't allowing the valves to close and its leaking under load.

  • drain oil using allen key plug underneath gearbox till all oil is drained refit use new seal if old 1 is damaged then look at front of g/box quater of the way up is another allen key plug remove fill with new oil till it starts to run out hole refit plug and ur done

Ford focus

hi, yes it will be safe to drive but you might have less power.

If its petrol engine then the fault could be a spark plug ot spark plug lead these will need to be replaced its best to replace all four at the same time to ensure you have no problems with the others.
The other problem it could be is the engine management now this is very expensive to buy but easy to replace.

hope this is some help to you let me know if you have any questions or if your car is a diesel if it is then it could be an expensive repair.
Let me know how you get on ok.

If you are unsure then leave it to a garage as they have a machine that clip onto the leads and tell them where the fault is and what the cause of the problem is.
This isnt expensive to get done and it will tell you the problem strait away hope fully its something simple like plug and leads.
