The extra pin on the motherboard is for a speed sensor connection which your fan does not have. The plug on the fan cable has two plastic tabs which fit over a tab on the motherboard connector. Just line the tabs up and the plug will fit properly. The fourth pin on the motherboard just won't be used with your fan.

Audio wiring problem on HP Compaq DC7100 CMT with DC7700 motherboard

You have a problem with HP connectivity. When I moved my dx7100 motherbard into another casing I experienced that error and also chassis fan not detected error. Chassis fan error is easy to remove, You only need a fan with at least 3 cables (with sensor) and plug it into 4 pin chassis fan connector. Audio conector have 10 pins (eight pin missing for orientation (with followed numerication
2 4 6 10
1 3 5 7 9
If you only want to get rid of the error ( with no use of back audio(use of another soundcard)) then short pins 2 and 7. But if you want to use back connectors, then you must bridge with jumpers 1-3 for microfone, 5-6 for audio L and 9-10 for audio R.
I've bee searched thru internet and didn't find this trick anywere.

Satelite pro 4200 Fan does not work although I have being replaced it

have you tryed getting a cpu fan that connects stright to the power supply d type connector, might be an idea to try. does the pc boot up , out of curiosty. sounds like a duff conector on the mother board if it does. look on the mother board there might be another conneter socket on there for the fan , normally you can conect case fans to the motherboard , might work if you put it on there

Need wiring diagram for emachines t2200 motherboard

If you are replacing the power supply and it has 4 pin 12v conector and your motherboard doesn't, just disregard the 4 pin plug. The 20 pin conector will supply sufficient power for the processor. Many of the older motherboards did not have a separate 12v supply for the processor.
