Problems on Matsushita drive

I have a Sony laptop PCG-FRV37 with a DVD RW from Matsushita model UJ-810. I can read and burn DVDs but it just don't work with CDs anymore (don't read or burn). The computer just say that ther is no media on the drive. Some times come back to work, but in some days it stop again. I saw many people reporting the same problem, but I couldn't find the solution. I tryed to upgrade the DVD firmware with the software supplied by sony, but the problem still the same. It seens to be a Software problem. Could you help me?

Re: Problems on Matsushita drive

You said it's a problem with the CD's right? Ok, then follow me through the rabbit hole here... open "my computer" right click on "DVD-RW Drive" and choose "properties" There are 4 tabs at the top, but you want to see "hardware" (third tab) Once in hardware, you'll want to highlight your DVD Drive and hit "properties" (button) Once that window opens, you'll have 5 tabs, of which, you'll want to choose "properties" (second tab) Make sure that "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device" is checked I know, there's a lot to go through but most of the complaints that I see are about Nero and it's "so called" compatibility with your laptop's ability to read DVD and Data. Once again, it's DVD that is effected and it seems that InCD has a way of messing with your Drive. Next best solution is to completely uninstall Nero, turn off the PC for a few minutes, then restart and reinstall nero, choosing the advanced installation. Make sure that you don't reinstall InCD, but also note that WinXP's writing ability is not turned on either.

I too had the same problem, just take the DVD case out by unscrewing it from the bottom, then open the DVD case and jently clean the lens with a warm cloth. Put it back in and start your computer. It will work well.

This is a problem with the DVD Writer model. SONY DVD RW AW-G170a has problems reading DVD+/- R/RW Discs. But there is no problem with any of the DVD+/- R/RW Dual Layer, DVD Ram or CD+/- R/RW Discs. It is the reason that this DVD Writer lacks the correct bitsetting for DVD+/- R/RW Discs. There is nothing else you could do other than replacing the wirter with some other model.
