The door seal is not rubber and does not have tacks to attach it to the body of the oven. Its a mesh, rectangular shaped seal with an inner metal mesh. It can't be removed without taking the door apart.

To dismantle the kitchenaid pro line oven door: there is a lever over the hinges that attach a door to the oven. The lever is right on top of the hinge. Pull the lever up. When that lever is in the up position, you can pull the door out.

SOURCE: how do i replace the inner glass on the oven door?
To replace the door glass do the following:

I also report testimonials for your model:
"removed the door from the
oven by releasing clips attached to the door hinge -- very nicely
engineered. Removed about 6 philips head screws to allow the door
assembly to be taken apart for access to the glass. Lifted out the
broken glass, cleaned the inside of the door, installed the new glass,
reassembled the door (a two minute project), and reattached the door to
the oven. Cleaning the inside of the door"
"I removed the oven door by
lifting it off with the hinges. Disassembled the door parts one at time
making sure I remember where I removed the screws until I am able to
get to the broken glass. The most difficult part is making sure that
the insulation strip & the gasket stayed in place after I replaced
the broken glass & doing the reverse process of installing the
parts together. Relatively easy process as long as you remember where
the parts go. When in doubt, I had to refer to the pictorial of the
disassembled door shown on your website.

Its a de Dietrich oven - pyrolitic on top, normal oven/grill below. De Dietrich won't tell me how I go about this but other than the seal being worn, the oven is working so I don't want to call out a repairman for such a silly job.
Thanks for the solution but in this case, this door has no screws at the top or side!!!! There are screws above and below the hinges where they are attached to the oven and a screw on either side of the inside of the oven door in front of where the hinges attach to the door. There are also screws on the underside of the door. I think that this door is very different to most ovens from what I can see, hence my difficulty. I am wondering if I need unscrew any of the screws on the body of the oven just to get the hinges out, to enable me to access the screws on the underside of the door. There are also another pair of screws on the inside of the door at the top, also facing inward to the oven, but I am guessing that they are holding the handle which is situated on the other side of the door. This is most perplexing!
Just to say, that I gave up and called in a great handyman called Rob. I had rung DeDietrich who refused to tell me how to do this (poor customer service). Between us, we worked out that you slide across the glass pane at the front. You totally slide it out of the housing. You then see the springs attached to the hinges and the glass, plus 4 screws which can't be accesses from inside. When you unscrew those, you can take apart the oven door and take out the old gasket and replace it with the new one. Be aware that once you have taken off the glass pane on the outside, the door is a lot lighter and you have to have another pair of hands to hold onto it, while you are taking it apart, otherwise it will spring up and you will end up with parts falling out and probably a lot of broken glass!
PS thank you reliableservice for your help with this - this oven is clearly so old, that the door design pre-dates any of the other models!
