GE Fridge Not Dispensing water

I have a GE GSH 22JFTA Fridge. When trying to dispense water I hear the clicking noise but no water. The ice maker is getting water and making ice.
The ice dispensor does work.Could this be a frozen line to the door ? If so where is the best place to start? Thanks

Rescue Tech, Sorry that I downgraded you. My intent was just to let you know that your suggestion was a miss. I do appreciate your effort
and that's why I Thanked You. I had no idea of the way the rating system worked. I would not had "Slammed" you for trying. The reason I contacted you guys was for ideas, and that's what you provided. Let me know how I can change the rating and I will. Oh, as far as Mike 258 he can get off his high horse. Rescue Tech, THANKS AGAIN!!!

    Hi dleham,

This is an independent curiousity asking here, but I wonder if you are aware of what the ratings here mean.

    FixYa 100%
    Helpful 90%
    Thanks for Trying 70%
    Inappropriate 40%
    Unrated no effect

To an Expert providing, or should I say 'donating' his years of professional experience to help solve problems at no cost, for people he doesn't even know, his only tangible compensation may be the rating received in providing those solutions. It might not seem like anything to a normal human, but I assure you it means a lot to us.

Experts with a rating maintained above 90% show a particular commitment to excellence since any rate given below a FixYa has a negative overall effect. Even a Helpful brings him down.
    A TFT? Way down.

I'm bending your ear now because before your TFT, RescueTech had the number one rating position on the whole site. No mean feat with over three thousand others competing.

As an Expert who also takes pride in his standing, I'm posting this without RescueTechs knowledge and asking you to reconsider your Thanks for Trying rate on his solution.

Check his profile, read some solutions he has provided. His suggestion addressed the most found cause of the symptoms you described. Why waste your time if this solved the problem. Right?

If you had commented back after trying his first suggestion, do you have any doubt he would have gotten to the area in question? He never got the chance before you down rated him. And even after this let down, his response was positive and professional.

If you truly feel he wasn't and would not have been helpful in solving your problem, change it to 'Not Rated'. Then at least you won't be hurting someone that was trying to help you.

I'm happy that your problem is solved.
Thanks for your time and Happy Holidays
    Mike258

First place to start is in the fridge. Look behind the crisper drawers for the water tank. It may have frozen at the outlet line. Try thawing it out with a hair dryer or a heat gun, being careful of course not to melt anything.

Water is not dispensing

Generic possibilities: 1) clogged filter - replace if needed, 2) defective switch, 4) defective water solenoid valve (if you used to hear a clicking from the rear of the fridge when dispensing water - it could be a bad switch OR solenoid) or crushed / kinked water supply line (but if you have an auto ice maker that works - that's not the problem).

Why doesn't my refrigerator water dispenser work?

Just like in the ice maker, you will find a solenoid valve.
If you hear the valve click open and close when trying the water.
If you do not here the valve open and close, check the switch and valve.

GE Fridge water dispenser working but not the ice

Yes you most likely have a defective dual water control valve. Look around the inside of the refrigerator for a model number.

  • Top Freezer
  • Bottom Freezer
Once you find the model number I will be able to tell you what part number the dual dual water control valve is or if your ice maker assist you in testing ice maker. If ice Maker is empty try filling with tap water to top edges of ice maker, allow water to freeze and if the ice drops into the ice bin but does not refill with water automatically I would say that the dual water control valve will need replaced. If your ice maker has old shrinking ice from a few days ago it will point to an ice maker problem.

We have the same model and just had exactly the same problem. The coil behind the fresh produce trays is frozen. There are 2 coils, one provides water for the water dispenser and the other to the ice maker. Looking into the fridge the water dispenser coil is on the right hand side. We unplugged the fridge for a couple of hours and the problem has been solved. Try increasing the temperature of your fridge by a degree or two.

When you press the handle, do you hear/feel a click?
Is this just starting to happen after a power outage?
Is the ice machine making ice? Dispensing?

Do you have/know how to use a multimeter to check voltages at the water valve solenoid?

    Thanks!

Ice dispenser not dispensing ice or water

Check the water filter - it should be at the bottom of the fridge - turn it 1/2 turn to the left. After several months of use (less if you use it a lot) the filter can clog.

Door dispenser stopped dispensing, starting making a constant clicking and now the entire fride isn't working

We had the same problem. Our frigerator is 1.5 year old. Everytime we try to dispence water or ice the dispencer clicks and the whole thing turns of. We had a GE repairman come by: the electronic board needs to be replaced: total cost $350. (cost of the board only: $150. We are considering disconnecting the dispencer by unplugging the board (according to the repain man the ice maker wil still work)or buy a new refrigurator (for sure NO GE!!!!!!)
