Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven
Background: (1) house furnace broke. (2) Used oven and gas stove to heat house for 2 hours. (3) our GESpacemaker Microwave's non-vented, ductless fan turned on automatically frm gas/stove heat (4) after about 1.5 hrs, the whole MW unit shut down completely--as if unplugged it (5) Microwave now does not work at all, no power, lights, nothing (6) Tried turning on/off the house's circuit breaker to MW; tried plugging/unplugging MW, still nothing.
Question: Did we totally ruin the MW by the heat of gas stove/oven or is it possible that the internal fuse within the MW itself burned out and needs replacing? How do I replace fuse if that's it?
The extreme heat has opened up one of the thermostats / thermal cutouts (TCOs) in the oven.
If it was the bottom TCO or magnetron TCO, you should be able to access them by just removing the control panel.
But if it's the one on top of the cavity, the oven will have to come out of the wall, then you need to pull of the outer cover..
If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.
You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.
There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
You should locate and look this over first.
At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
