Presario r3000 too slow

Compaq Resario r3000 is running really slow. I can get on as normal but when I get to main screen it freezes. I've tried to reboot it but that is not going well either. Not sure what I need to do. Can you help

I have a R3000 and after many years of usage many things happen and add to your hard drive. It can be a number of things from not enough hard drive space for your cache file to bad installed drivers.
I would suggest a full format and install using the backup disk that Compaq sent with the system. You should have the WinXP code on the bottom of the computer. This way you get a 100% clean system. You will have to reinstall any additional software such as MS Office or your virus scanner.

Looks like your Laptop Inverter is Faulty and will Require buying a new one to brighten up your LCD or the Backlight on the LCD is faulty, the other problem with it shutting off while waitting for it to fully load maybe the FAN that keeps it cool to run is blocked and needs clearing.

Hey don't panic... its just because of faulty RAM... i assist you to not to take hurdle of changing RAM yourself...its better you take help of any professional to replace it and troubleshoot it...otherwise it may lead to bigger problems also... don't try to play with these electronics gadgets because it may harm you physically also... rate this solution if it is really helpful to you

Compaq Presario R3000 dim screen but not dark
Sounds like the auto-dim in the BIOS is set too low. Fortunately the Compaq R3000 allows you to adjust the brightness right from the keyboard. Hold down the [FN] function key while tapping the [F8] key will brighten the screen, while [FN]-[F7] will dim it. The settings are different for running on AC power and battery, so you must do each individually.

Common problem.
There are small VRAM BGA chips.
They needs REFLOW.
Basically motherboard needs service.

Screen troubles
I assume you are running it under normal power supply (mains)?
Try checking your display settings, they may be set st a lower brightness level. As you switch on the computer it is taking a few seconds to catch up and dim down once the settings kick in.

Hi Tom,
It appears without looking at the laptop you have removed or dislogged the cable that goes between the motherboard and the screen. This is not hard to do they are very delicate. The only thing you can do is take it to a qualified service tech. i get these periodically in my shop too. Check the cable before you do so to see if you can reconnect it but be very carefull.

I have experienced similar problems. I found that if the fans were REALLY dirty, the system would overheat and shut down with no warning.

Compaq Presario R3000 Black Screen with flashing cursor
Lines are the BGA RAM Or VRAM Needing rework.. This will also cause boot issues on these models. Do you ever see the Compaq Logo? Weve repaired a ton of these and class settlement happened for the R3000's regarding the jacks but we could repair the other issue as well. (As well as install a new jack while its here).. HP's reimbursing for these outside repairs.

Compaq presario c-300 charging system
that is normal.. you can change that dim setting to power option in control panel.. it really dim when unplug.. but you can change that if you want, so it will not dim.
