HP 1022 printer. About 3 years old. About $200.00

I never had to change the toner cartridge.

I cleaned the "pickup roller" (?). When I re-installed it and turned the printer on, there was grinding sound. I turned the printer off and saw some blacl powder inside. I guess I screwed up !!!

I bought the printer at Staples. I called them and they don't repair printers. Staples gave me a phone number to call to have the printer repaired. Staples said they charge $100.00 just to look at it.

PLUS the cost of parts and a "toner cartridge" about $70.00.

    FORGET IT !!!! I'm junking it !!

    I bought a HP P1006 laser ptinter for $100..

You should first try a new toner. Ther may be something stuck inside the toner cartridge. You might also try cleaning out the inside to be sure there isn't something blocking the light flow. If it still continues to happen there may be a problem with the fuser unit.

Status idle + Test page onl shows top (reddish). Rest is blank.

Check that you're not out of "blue" and/or "black" ink.

For example, no "green" on the page means that the printer did not mix "yellow" and "blue".

Also, the "rest" of the test-page should be "black", if any black ink is available.

Two white gost lines in the middle on the middle of the page ( one two millimeters wide) , the other 2cm away and one ml wide with shadows There are several other with similar distance from eacjh other but...

Something is wrong with your printer -- part of the drum is *NOT* holding the magnetic-charge that the laser should be creating. So, none of the ink "sticks" to the paper, resulting in a WHITE strip.

Take the printer to a qualified technician, for proper trouble-shooting & repair.

If it's scan and copy only and not when you send a job from the computer your solution is easy to remedy. Try going into the menu located on the printer to info menu. Scroll down to conguration page and click the check button. When the printer prints, if the line is not on the page you simply have ink or white-out on the scan glass for the ADF (auto doc feeder).

To clean the ADF glass, lift the top lid to expose the glass. There are two peices, 1 large full size and one strip peice. If your getting the line when using the auto feeder (without lifting top) pay close attention to the strip of glass. When a document is auto-fed it moves the original past the strip of glass. A dot (pen mark or white-out) will appear as a line on your final copy.

Clean well with windex or similar glass cleaner. PUT THE CLEANER ON THE RAG THEN THE RAG TO THE GLASS. Don't spray the glass as it's easy to get it into cracks where to don't want it to fall on an electronic part or board below the glass edges. While you at it, clean all the glass.

Test by making a copy of a "BLANK" sheet of paper with one small line to give you postion clues. First by putting it on the glass. Clean everywhere on the large glass that shows a mark on the page (except the one you purposely put there). The mark will help you locate where to clean. (example - 1" below and 2" over from your intentional mark) It also helps you identify top of page from bottom.

Once that is done do the same thing using the original in the ADF. Simply measure in from the edge of the page on the copy and find the corresponding spot on the small strip of glass.

IF YOU SHOULD BE GETTING THE LINE IN ALL FUNCTIONS, PRINT, COPY MANUALLY, AND COPY WITH ADF. Check the toner cartridge, most likely black for damage on the cartidge drum. The cartridge drum can be quickly viewed by flipping the shutter open (the part with the HP logo and part number printed on it). If there is a line, replace the cartridge.

Hope that helps you. If so hit it with a FIXYA!

Thanks,

Copying with page feed results in a vertical line on every page

There must be a strip of glass about one inch wide, next to
the large glass. There is the problem !
Clean that strip thourougly. When you use the feeder the pages
are scanned thru the small strip of glass.
