Fan starts intermittently Amana AMV5164BAB microwave oven

The hood fan on my Amana AMV5164BAB microwave oven starts up intermittently when one of the nearby kitchen cabinet doors are closed. Appears that likely the vibration causes the fan to come on, lock up one from shutting it off thru the keypad. Un-plug the unit for awhile and it will reset to normal operating state and the fan stays off. Being an electrical engineer, is there a downloadable service manual. Please advise. Klatu

Re: Fan starts intermittently Amana AMV5164BAB microwave...

Sounds like a loose connection or a failing hood thermostat. That's right behind the control panel on the base plate. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your base model number (without the suffix) here:

After approx a minute a regular squeak begins, occasionally missing a beat.Heating is fine.

If the "frequency" of the squeaking is a low frequency, the I would suspect the turntable motor or stirrer motor (if so equipped).

If it is a higher frequency, I would suspect the cooling fan or hood fan motor.

Fan is barely running. during cook, fan runs weak and vent fan does not run. tech said maybe a control panel? i can do the work but need a parts and service manual. are these available? does the weak...

probably a defective motor or slipping blade. i'm not sure how old your amana is. if it's the real old chrome metal '70's or early '80's vintage models, the part may not be available anymore.. they were very common to fail.

I have Amana Commercial microwave RFS12SW2 The fan keeps running even door is open , it wont stop.

These microwaves are designed to run the fan for a couple mins after the cook cycle to continue cooling the electrical components.

Steam gets in the door and how can we clean and prevent?

This is usually due to incomplete venting or impaired air flow.

Assuming your hood vent exhaust fan is running properly, be sure your grease filter is clean (or if you use a charcoal type, it must be replaced when dirty) and be sure the exhaust ductwork and outside flapper are all clear.

I recommend that you always run the hood vent exhaust fan whenever you are cooking on the stovetop, too.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here. You can get new filters there, too.

I recommend that you bookmark that link to your favorites.

Ace 208 comes up with "hot" in display amana tech say not possible no code like this

Hello I´ve repaired a couple of ACE208 with hot message in the display. The problem is in the convection fan located on the back of the oven cavity, turn the oven on and quickly open the door and look inside to see if the fan is spinning (slowing down, the fan stopps when you open the door but you can see it slowing down) if it is not spinning the supporting screws of the fan sometimes loosen up causing the fan to hit the oven walls preventing the fan to spin freely -probably before the problem started to happen you could hear a loud noise- the fan can´t move the air throgh the warming elements causing them to overheat hence the hot message. The fan motor rarely fails so all you need to do is remove the stainless steel cover and the back black cover and tighten the mounting screws of the convection fan and clean it if it´s dirty. Hope this helps, both the ovens with hot message I have repaired get the green tag just by doing this or replacing the motor, I have no knowledge of other problems that may cause this.

Fan motor starts and stops intermittently

I would wonder if it's the internal cooling which comes on automatically whenever you microwave or the hood vent exhaust fan, which you can turn on and off manually.

It is vital that the cooling fan runs, or the turntable and stirrer won't work, and magnetron will soon be destroyed.

Amana Model MVH210E The unit turns on and starts up normally but it does not heat and seems to make an increased vibrating noise

I'm having the same problem. When I hit start, the light and fan comes on but no heat. There is not a turntable in the MVH210E model. Any ideas how to fix it?

The fan starts up and runs on its own and we are cooking

That is a normal safety feature.

That's only covered in a very subtle note in the hood fan section of your owner's manual:

NOTE:If the temperature gets too hot around the
microwave oven, the fan in the vent hood will
automatically turn on at the HIGH setting to cool the
oven. It may stay on up to an hour. When this
occurs, the fan can not be turned off.

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, you can download it here.

Enter your model number as MV1610ST with no spaces.

You will need the free DJVU viewer to view or print your manual.

Microwave Ultrawave with Hood fan

You are right. f4 means shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD). Check sensor harness and harness connection between oven sensor and oven control. Replace oven temperature sensor (RTD) if wiring is ok.
