Olympus E500 card error

I've been using a 1 GB Lexar Compact Flash card. I took out the card to use in a reader and print since I maxed out the card with pictures I had left on the camera. Now when I reinsert the card it says "card error" and won't let me format the card or anything. I even bought a new one - thinking perhaps the old one was damaged - but still nothing but the "card error" message.

The pictures are still on the old 1 GB card, I've loaded them onto my computer without problem.

I have tried two CF and one xD cards and all show the same error. One of the CF cards is brand new.

used my card in the computer card reader, reinserted it in camera and now have card error.

Tried resetting as instructed . . . still card error. Have only had the camera since May 08

How do I know if the 'pins' are damaged?

I took the cf card and put it in reader at work. I have done this several times with no problems. I put it back in the camera and now I have dual card error messages for xd and cf cards. They work fine in my brothers e-500 and my computer but not my camera. HELP!!

Neither the CF cards nor the xD cards work. They all show the same error. I don't think it's probably the pins in both slots. Any other ideas?

I had the same problem. Unfortunately it turned out tha I had somehow bent some of the pin. Look inside to see if some of the pins are not alingned. Then try to bend it back. I bent them back and one got a little messed up resulting in faulty reading of the images. Black flashing parts on the image. Mikes camera said the pins would have to be replaced at $200. I'm not happy as I only used my camera once. Hope you have better luck

You most likely will need a different card to be compatible with your MacBook pro. Apple website should be helpful.

You can try using a file recovery software like Bad Copy Pro 4.10.125. It works well for me.

What size compact flash card can i use in a olympues e500 can i use a 8GB CF card

You should be fine using an 8g card, but do however make sure it is a type I or II and although you asked about compact flash I might add that the XD M type cards are cheap BUT extremely slow so be careful what you go with. Where ever you get the card from check their return policy just in case there is an issue with it. Also might want to enusre your firmware is up to date before you try newer cards.

In embroidery mode I insert a card adapter into my machine and all I get is a "communication error" I have a Dynex card reader which works fine on my computer. I also have PQ1 compactFlash adapter that...

The solution was sooo easy.....one of my online embroidery groups suggested to put the card in my Janome and let the machine format it. It took about a minute and did not tell me what it was doing..and It worked! It put two folders on my card, Emb5 and ord#5, and I was to copy the jef files into the Emb5 folder, which I did and bingo! my Janome 9500 read the card and produced a screen with my jef files in it. I am a happy camper....I don't know if this works with all Janome machines but it did with mine.
Thanks for being here to help.

Reading 4Gb Compact Flash

download the pictures from the camera direct using the appopriate USB cable, you should have no problem then..
I had exactly the same issue, with my freinds camera, turned out that my card reader just didn't like the card, I got an external reader and that worked fine.
