Xbox claims controller is connected

My xbox is claiming that there is a controller connected when there isn't. As soon as I turn the console off it comes right back on saying there is a controller connected to port 1. If i turn on my controller it comes up as number 2. I have tried everything i know to do and still nothing.

Most likely your xbox is picking up a signal from some other device in your home or near it, such as a cell phone, portable phone, wifi or something else of that nature. Try turning off some of these types of items and see if that solves your problem. Also press the small round button on the console that has 3 dashes on it and then the corrisponding button on the controller located next to the left bumper.

Xbox 360 console have 3 rings around the front in red and game will not come on

What is the date of manufacture of your XBOX 360 console?

It's a problem with the motherboard. You will find a lot of places claiming to repair this type of problem for peanuts -- but the best thing to do is to go to Microsoft for this repair. Most repair claims are temporary and can cause more damage to your XBox 360. Microsoft warranties the original system against the 3 rings for 3 YEARS now.

  • The controller remains connected to the Xbox console even when you turn off the Xbox console.
  • The controller is connected to only one Xbox console at a time. You can connect the controller to a different Xbox console at any time, but your connection to the previously connected console is lost. You must repeat these steps to reconnect the controller to the original console after your connection to the console is lost.
  • The controller works within 33 feet (10 meters) of your Xbox 360 console. However, objects between the controller and the console may reduce this range.
  • If the controller does not turn on, the batteries may have to be replaced.

RRoD

Microsoft have admitted to the industry that all 11,000,000 beige Xbox 360 consoles manufactured have exactly the same fault, the fabricator used the wrong solder and several Xbox 360's have had there GFX chips fall off the motherboard (got to love Microsoft quality!). Anyway, as a result of this Microsoft have extended all beige Xbox 360 warranties to 3 years so you should be able to make a claim for repair/replacement under your Microsoft warranty.
