Question about Optics

1 Answer

Package Contents We have recently gotten a telescope for my nephew, but there seem to be parts missing. Unfortunately, without the box, we don't know exactly WHAT is missing, so we can't go about looking for parts. All we know for certain is that the remote control is missing.  Is there anywhere I can find the parts list for this item, down to the last screw, nut and bolt?  And is there anywhere I can get the missing parts if I do get a list?

Not knowing exactly what is the name of the scope or the model-- do what I do-- go to a well stocked hardware store as most of the bolts and nuts are generic and can be purchased anywhere.

If you post the exact name and model-- maybe we can be more helpful.

Yes but the eyepiece will be in an uncomfortable position without the diagonal. You can buy these from many on-line retailers-- like this one--

Here is a link to an item being listed on ebay called a equatorial mount. That is the term for a precision telescope mount. This may be much more that what you need, but the price is tempting.
Take a look.

I recently bought a Cstar Optics T45375 from a garage sale. it seems one of the inner scopes inside the eye piece is missing. is there anywhere i can go to see if it is missing and if so where can i get a...

Inner scope??? you mean the eyepiece (s) are broken. Measure the hole eyepieces come in 3 sizes, .965, 1.25, and 2 inch sizes.

The .965 eyepieces are very difficult to find as most amateur telescopes use the 1.25 inch size.

Try Telescope Warehouse or Agena Astroproducts for a replacement eyepiece:

Don't ever buy another off brand telescope at a garage sale that you know nothing about.

NO it is NOT missing a lens-- all astronomical telescopes show upside down images.

You can buy an "erecting prism" diagonal for terrestrial viewing, but you do not need it to view the night sky.

Here is an example of the erecting prism:

I'M MISSING THE ENTIRE EYE PIECE ASSEMBLY FOR 525 POWER TELESCOPE

You will NOT get 525 power from that small telescope. Yes I know the box said that but it was a lie.

An eyepiece might cost as much as you paid for the entire telescope. NEVER buy a telescope that advertises magnification on the outside of the box.

Here are some eyepieces:

You probably cannot get replacement parts for that telescope. Your next best bet is a well stocked hardware store-- for some hardware to repair the tripod.

Bushnell 78-9945

Take it back to the store and get a refund then buy your son this telescope--
http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=dobsonians/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=09814

Do not buy Tasco, Bushnell, Jupiter, Baytronic or any other department store junk telescope.

Sorry but it costs at least $200 to get a small good telescope-- and the prices go up from there. Also run away from any telescope that has pretty color pictures on the box taken by the Hubble Space Telescope-- or that has the POWER listed on the box (something like 550x) --- magnification is not important...... most of us us less than 100 power even in LARGE 8-10 inch telescopes costing thousands of dollars.
