HP NC8000, Same issue I get a PCMCIA MTD-0002 Driver request when I plug in the SanDisk memory card. I believe this is an issue related to a Windows update. The actual driver is an O2Micro Memory Cardbus Accelerator Driver, but even after re-installing the driver the SanDisk card does not work. The PCMCIA cards work fine. This is not a hardware issue and I dont have the option of flashing the BIOS because I already have the most up to date BIOS.

Someone suggested in another forum if you have the Phoenix BIOS to go in and disable the Soundblaster but leave the internal sound card enabled. I have also seen work arounds for this issue, but I rather have Microsoft fix there issue instead of me having to find a workaround.

    Sorry Rodgandysr,

Drivers wont fix this issue. I have tried using drivers to fix this before and once you put the SanDisk in the card slot again it asks for drivers again. This is a Microsoft issue that they need to address.

    Thanks,

My computer does nto detect my USB devices (camera and Garmin watch) any idea why??

My guess is one of two... first that the USB drivers are corrupted or not properly installed. Go to the Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus Controllers, if any of the controller ports or or hubs have a yellow or red mark on them, then try to delete and reinstall that device or driver. (described for XP, Vista or Win7 will be slightly different).

The other option is that you may have a USB hardware failure. You can add a PCMCIA to USB adapter for a few bucks.

Tip

Installing a driver for your system

right click "my computer" and select "properties" then click on "Hardware", Inside the hardware, select "Device Manager"
Inside the Device Manager, see whether there is a yellow Question mark before the start of any name, If there it will be the driver which either not there or not updated. Right click that driver and the first option will be update Driver. Select it and it will ask you to update automatically, select it and it will search on the internet for the best available driver for your hardware. If there was more yellow Question marks with the items in the Device MAnager, then repeat the same process with all. If ther was no Yellow Question mark, then select "Sound, video and game controllers" and select for the option of sound it in and right click it, and select uninstall driver. Once uninstalled then Inside the control panel, select add new hardware. and follow the steps which come in your way. If no yellow question mark, then once the Device Manager is opened, right click the first thing written inside the box, and the option will come " scan for hardware changes" click it, and u may find something like , Found new Hardeware, and it will start seraching for the drivers automatically using the internet

Go to your Device Manager and uninstall all the Universal Serial Bus controllers and then right click and choose Scan for hardware changes. You may also need to restart the computer.
To access Device Manager, use any of the following methods:

- Click Start, click Run, and then type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotation marks).
- Right-click My Computer, click Manage, and then click Device Manager.
- Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

READ ME FIRST BEFORE TAKING ANY ACTION. BY NOT DOING SO, CAN MAKE YOUR SYSTEM NOT BOOT CORRECTLY.

First thing I would do, is look under Device Manager, to see if the PCMCIA slot is not install correctly. The software driver could be corrupted just like Microcrap. Not sure how to. Very Simple. Here's how.

Right click My Computer, scroll down to properties or select My Computer, then press ALT and Enter at same time. Either way same window pops up.
You will be looking for a Tab on the top that says "Hardware". Below that is a button says "Device Manager"
Looking at the list for "PCMCIA" click the plus sign on the left to expand it. Unless you see a yellow triangle next to it, then it's install correctly. To fix it, you can always clcik on it and on the top there's a icon that says "Uninstall" If/When you click it windows will uninstall the hardware only. There's a icon in the same area:"Scan Hardware Devices" Either Click it or restarting the pc, windows will try to install it again. As long as the software drivers are not uninstall, windows will try to install that device again. Most of the time, it will install the hardware without any action form the user. Sometimes you need to tell it where the files are at. If ALL checks out, then check the PCMCIA card and the slot o the pc. The pins could be bents on the inside. Again if all check out fine, try a different PCMCIA card.

Let me know wat happens

Acer & Win2k new Device PCMCIA MTD-0002

Try using this Unknown Devices program to identify the hardware. Then search the internet for the correct driver.

If this does not solve the problem then check with the computer manufacturer for a BIOS upgrade that could repair the problem.

The manufacturer's web site may also have documentation that identifies this unique problem.

Pcmcia cards show up as mtd-0002

if you go into sound and multimedia you can change the preferred output/input items to your PCMCIA card rather than the onboard systems. you could also try disabling onboard systems in device manager too.
