WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL.

Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source.

Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards

first clean your computer of dust you could use a vacuum cleaner but not with a metallic pipe it might short out if it touches something inside the computer
use a plastic pipe one

run the chkdsk utility
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive another way of running the chkdsk utility

click start control panel administration tool computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties tools click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and

scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now tart should schedule this task when restart

have no input while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer
check all power and data leads that attach from motherboard to your hard drive for secure dust free connections if it's a 40 pin flat ribbon type ide this will be the first to fail

if its a clicking sound you might have a dirty hard drive the clicking noise is the reader arm jumping across platters on your hard drive

hope this helps

My trio stealth g2 freezes an makes a funny noise how can i take the back off to see if the internal fan is working

Hi , I have a DX4822 Desktop... my problem is hi speed constant fan ...

Noise, right? The fan tach transistor might have failed, but it's also possible that you need to dust it out and clear the ventilation paths; or that some knock jarred a heatsink off, which will need to be set securely back in place. Try swapping out the fan or running a fan control utility (or just the Intel utitlity for the chipset, or go update the Gateway BIOS and see what can't be done with that.)

Sounds like the fan is making a whirring sound for first few minutes after boot up

You should visually inspect the fan (inside and outside the case) to check for dust clogging things up. Very often dust will accumulate on the fans and cause them to slow down, make funny noises, or it will collect on the processor heat sink and cause the computer to run hotter than normal, indirectly causing the fans to work harder to cool the system. If there's no visible dust accumulation, try downloading the newest BIOS for your machine from Dell's support website. A BIOS update may fix the problem by addressing the thermal sensor on the motherboard. Or... you might have a failing fan or thermal sensor.

Cannot see the bios screen

I would try removing, the cd drive, hardrives out so all you have connected is the processor, and ram. If two sticks dont work try one. Try this as a starting point too see if you get a display signal from the monitor, and the bios. Also try putting in a video card in the pci or agp if the on board video isnt working.

System does not see new video card

Confirm the card works in another system to eliminate it as a suspect. Try a beefier power supply in the machine (sometimes these 300 to 350 watt supplies just cant hang when an addon card is installed). Check the BIOS settings and make sure that the PCI Express slot resources are active for the card. If the card uses a power connector, make sure it is connected. Keep us posted.
