the microwave appears to be working (the lights are on and the sound is normal) but it does not heat anything up. Please help.

I have the exact same problem, microwave just around 6 years and it just suddenly stopped working, lights and everything are still running - everythings functioning apart from its not actually cooking the food!!! Is it just this microwave? Seems like a lot of people have the same problem.

This can be due to wrong choice or fault in the power supply ,main board or the magnetron.
You should try with a preset selection and if the microwave works then the fault relates to correcting the power to time settings.
