    Hi again,

My name is Teis, what I meant was that I was jealous, just got to spell it in Danish, ha, ha.

Thank you for some – info, :-), I need some more questions answered though. You, apperently know whats worth knowing in this area, but me :-)

I found that a program like “mod_rewrite” need “Apache”, that as far as I know is a Linux browser, right?

As I haven’t any Linux, yet, I found that “ISAPI_Rewrite” needed IIS, as I haven’t got, either, now my question; is there a program that translate the URL to a rewrite program that work on a WinXP?

    /Teis

After going through your answer, I find that you answer me like I was to make a homepage.

What I needed answer on was, how do you make your hidden URLs in a FixYa window.

Hi jalux

This is a surprisingly common question. My initial response is to not use QueryString parameters in cases where the information is sensitive. It is simply far too easy for users to modify the information in the URL to try and get different results; maybe information they shouldn't have access to at all. Here are some potential workarounds:

  1. Use a form and POST the information. This might require additional code in source pages, but should not require logic changes in the target pages (merely change Request.QueryString to Request.Form). While POST is not impossible to muck with, it's certainly less appealing than playing with QueryString parameters.

  2. Use session variables to carry information from page to page. This is likely a more substantial effort compared to (1), because you will need to take session variable checking into account (e.g. the user might now have a difficult time navigating around using their Back and Forward buttons, if you are constantly checking state). You will also need to deal with the case where session cookies are not enabled (this solution will not work for these people).

  3. Use "encoded" or non-sensical information in the QueryString in place of the real data. This will require the effort of creating an encoding and decoding scheme on either end of all page submissions. Sure, users can still experiment and reverse engineer your scheme, however they will be less likely to quickly come up with meaningful changes to the existing QueryString.

  4. Use framesets. I really don't recommend this approach, though it is quite common. If you're trying to hide the information as opposed to making it more difficult to modify, users can still right-click the individual frames and click properties, in order to retrieve all of the information passed via QueryString.

  5. Use Server.Transfer to move control to a second page, which will still have access to the QueryString parameters passed to the first page (the URL of which was visible only briefly).
One problem with moving away from QueryStrings is that they make your site harder to use. If you are relying on any method other than (3), it is impossible for users to bookmark the current page as is... they can only bookmark the page in a way that resembles what would have happened if they had simply typed the URL in (which might not even work, depending on how you've constructed the page). So that's just one thing to keep in mind when deciding how sensitive your information really is, and how far you're willing to go in the balance of usability vs. security.

I cannot find a whole batch of jpeg files on my hard drive. I suspect that somehow they have invalid file extensions so are hidden from me. Is there any method I can use to reveal these disguised files? ...

open My Computer. Go to Tools -> Folder Options.
Go to View tab.
Select "Show hidden files and folders" and un-tick "Hide protected system files (Recommended)". Accept the warning message, and click OK to accept the changes.
Now ALL files are revealed! If your missing files are there - you'll be able to see them, if you can't - they're probably gone!

If you suspect the extensions had changed, search for a filename of any file from the missing ones, and make sure to tick "Search in hidden files and folders" under "More advanced options". Once you find one file, search for it's extension to find the rest (search for "*.???" - without the inverted commas, change ??? with the extension you've found).

Good luck!
Cheers,
Pelu.

Rootkit

Hello, first try to find the driver from device manager(right click to my computer, properties, hardware, device manager).Once you have open the device manager press on View and check Show hidden devices, your driver(virus) is on non plug and play drivers and with right click you can unistall it.But if is a root kid and a tought one it should have another file in your system to recreate it!So clean your windows temp files and internet temporary internet files(you can with a application or just right click to your disk, properties and click disk clenup). If you still can fix it
download HijackThis and in the main menu press do a system scan and save logfile. After open your logfile and give me the results
Good luck

How to browse an other person computer using driver software? how is tat possible? bocause im facing a problem tat some 1 browsing my pictures

It's possible that your network settings are set to share picture and media files. You can check this out (vista) by typing "network and sharing center" in the search bar at the bottom of the start menu, enter the program, and it has a sort of check list of your networking stuff, I don't know a lot about all that, but I do know that it has an option for file sharing, one for public folder sharing, and one for media sharing, and a few other ones. That's the first place I would check if you're concerned about somebody remotely getting into your files.

Its also possible, if you have at ANY time put the pics online, that they could be viewed that way as well, I don't know if you've checked out Pipl.com , or spokeo.com , but you can pull up almost anything that anybody has put online, all you need to know is their name or email address.

Lastly, aside from not putting them online if you dont' want them seen, I would suggest putting them into a folder and going into folder settings and clicking the option to make that folder hidden. I'm not sure exactly how the networking works (if it views hidden folders?) but if you get your pics out of that public file, and hide them on top of that, you should be pretty safe.
