Idle problems after throttle is closed fast.

Need some technical help with my 2002 Yamaha SXViper 700. I took of the carbs and cleaned them out the other day and now im having some problems that I cant seem to track down. The sled starts and runs great the only problem is when I rev it up high and let go of the throttle it will cough and sputter when it get to about 3000rpm. If I hit the throttle again it just boggs down and will not rev up. After it has down this I have to let it sit for about 5sec until it stabilise at idle than it run great again. It will only do it if I drop the throttle, if I let it out slowly it runs fine. Any idea on what wrong, thanks for any help you can give.

Sounds like an overly rich condition when you let throttle snap shut no air enters or at least minamal air enters the engine and with to much gas the engine will bog down until the extra gas burns off(5 seconds) check floats height and make sure jets are secure and make sure the choke is all the way off

How to adjust carburator on 99 harley davidson fatboy

Only adjustment that can be made are to the idle, idle mixture and needle valve which requires some disassembly. Idle mixture should be mae when engine is warm. remove brass plug on bottom of carb ( need to drill out) be carefull, may need to remove carb. Install carb, warm up engine and adjust screw in or out to acheive best idle, then turn in 1/4 turn. adjust engine idle to 900- 950 rpm. If engine smokes under accel drop needle down 1 notch, if seems weak or hesitates under load, raise needle one notch, refer to Harley manual for specifics

2006 HD Fatboy FLSTFI minimal throttle position misfire

I would also check for a vacuum leak (intake manifold seal) or a faulty throttle position sensor. Check the intakes first, hold the motor steady above idle and squirt some carb cleaner where the manifold connects to the head. If the motor jumps up in speed right away, you located the leak. A quick shot is all you need to check. Replace both seals at the same time.

The throttle position sensor would need to be checked with a multi-meter. If the sensor (potentiometer) does not change resistance smoothly, it can become "lost". With the engine off, you can disconnect the plug and measure the resistance across the sensor. Get a extra hand to work the throttle from idle to WOT slowly. Watch the resistance change on the meter. If the reading jumps around or goes "open" while moving the throttle, the sensor is faulty.

2003 HD Fatboy has a miss. New plugs and wires.

i take it its carb. after it warms up to operating temps does it stop the sputtering? thats just a HD CV carb doing what it does til hot. Im not talking a 2 min warm up and off u go im talking operating temps of 200 plus. Is the carb an S&S? Your going to have high rpms til the temp kicks it down if its injected

Bike wont idle without choke

you need to take your carb off give it as good cleaning. also check your intake gaskets where the manifold joins the jugs and the black rubber one where the carb joins the manifold. You def have air/fuel problem going on. also check your vscume hose to the carb but im thinking that is not it.

Decrease hot idle

Your bike is carb or injected? Anyway Hd that are injected start at high RPM and after heating up the idle kicks down. You have a Temp sensor for this, which sounds like it is bad. I can not believe your bike would run at 100 rpm no way. harley runs at 950 to 1050 at an idle. It does not sound like you have a carb so Im not going to go into that fix.

MY SNOWMOBILE(SKI DOO TUNDRA LATE 80'S/EARLY 90'S MODEL) WAS WORKING GREAT BUT THEN GAVE OUT..AM ABLE TO START IT FINE BUT IT STOPS AS IF IT'S OUT OF GAS..THE FUEL LINE FROM THE PRIMER WORKS FINE..I...

I had a similar problem, my '89 Tundra would only run if the primer was being pumped. Turned out a piece of dirt was caught in the carb's needle valve. Check/clean your carburator. Disassemble it and blow aerosol carb cleaner through all the passages. Before removing any valves and jet screws, turn the screws in until they are first snug (while counting exactly how many turns it took to tighten them) so that when you reassemble it, you can turn them in all the way again and then back them off the right amount to get the same carb settings that you had before disassembly --- you need to count them right or it might not run nicely and could even blow a piston. This is not a hard job at all, just make sure you have something to dump the gas in that will spill out of the carb's bottom bowl.
Good luck

My harley idles at 600rpm instead of 1000rpm and it has a flat spot under acceleration.I bought some bad gas awhile ago but ran a few tanks through it since. What's the problem?

Check and clean the air filter first since it's going to be the easiest to get to. Then, if the bad gas had sediments in it, you may need to clean the fuel filter and the carb. It could also be that your carb is just seating and needs adjustment. Try adjusting the idle, if you have any fluctuation or it has a high idle from time to time, then set the idle back, and pull the carb and clean it, floats, jets, etc... This is, if it's a carburated model, if injected, then you will need to run an injection system cleaner through it and have the injection system calibrated.
