Hi,

your new laptop is asking a network key as you network(wireless) is a secured one.other laptops have this key already .in order to get the key, please open the internet explorer (or safari) in a working laptop and in the address bar type-192.168.1.1>>it will prompt you the username ,password page->>put "admin" as password and leave the username blank.once you logged into routers webpage, click on wireless tab and then click on wireless security subtab>>you can see the network key there.copy it or write down in a paper>>close that page.

--->>from the new laptop , try to connect,if it prompts network key--enter the key( you got from other laptop),and connect.it will connect and next time it will connect automatically.
thank you,

Windows 7 Atheros network adapter will not connect to WRT54GS Linksys Router

First, use a lan calble to reach the router. Then check the settings on the router and see what ip address is assigned to your laptop. Also check the password setting on the router. Try using WPS as an alternative to setting up the password, etc. WPS will work with either a pin number or push button. It should solve your problem. If not, then use the first solution, although it may be a little more complicated for you. Last thing you can do is go to into Microsoft's network and sharing center, and choose "manage wireless networks" and make sure the adapter is "enabled".

Tring to connect to my wii but I need pass code or key for linksys ,WPA-PSK ( TKIP)

(1) Go to a web browser (IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.) and copy and paste into the address bar: http://192.168.1.1/

(2) when prompted, default login is blank, and password is "admin" (if this does not work, I recommend asking a separate question on FixYa for this)

(3) Go to this link (external link to Linksys website). Start on "Step 2". It will help you find (and change, if desired) the "key" to your wireless network.

*remember: if you changed your key, you will have to change your internet connection settings to reflect this new change, otherwise you may find that your computer will not connect to the wireless network

What is a network key? how do I find it

Hello!
A network key is commonly associated with your wifi (wireles internet) network. It's purpose is to block other people out of your internet system which is pretty important... if you don't want other people freeloading off your internet! Basically it would ask you for your "network key" to type in, almost like a password in order to access your internet.
It's common for people for forget/lose their network keys. Just as in your case, many people have difficulty recovering it.
Below is a detailed link as an example to finding a network key (for a Linksys brand router). Make sure you identify your routers brand.

Laptop says no internet connection

First you need to ensure proper connection and filtering. Make sure the source cable is plugged into the Linksys router first. Direct connections must be made to the router, meaning the cable to your main computer should come from the router, not the main source.

Next make sure that the connection is made. You should see a light on the router indicating proper internet connection. Once this is accomplished, connect your main computer and you should have access to the internet on it.

Now comes the easy but somewhat tricky part (tricky only because icons can vary a little). If you haven't already done so, run the setup disk for Linksys. It's has simple, easy-to-follow instructions to set up your network. Now for the laptop. On the blue bar at the bottom of the laptop screen there should be an icon indicating internet connection. Click on that icon to show available wireless networks. Most likely your Linksys router will show up as a secure network. When you click on that connection it will ask you for a WEP key. That key is usually a 10 digit alpha-numeric key written on the back of the router. Sometimes it's on the box the router came in. Sometimes it requests a 12 digit WEP key, in which case simply add two zeros to the front of that same key. If you set up a password for your wireless network you will need that as well.

NOTE: if you have neighbors close, you should always secure your network with a password.

You may need to shut down and restart the laptop in order for the changes to take place.

It sounds confusing, but once you start you'll find that it's actually fairly straight forward. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I can't access my wireless internet, asking for a pass phrase

the D Link router is what is causing the issue - Cut your losses and get a linksys ( netgears are ok so maybe one of those ) but avoid D Link and Belkin equipment as far as wireless or networking goes.

An apple airport extreme ( although a bit more expensive ) are very good.

Ps3 wont link to linksys router

When you tell the PS3 to search for networks, is it even finding your network? If so, it should be asking you for the key. Whoever set up the router/internet connection should know the key.

Cant connect to internet from laptop

The network key is stored in the router, and your manual will tell you how to access it.
If you don't have access to the router's web page, you'll need to reset the router and start over.
