Echo Problems My Galaxy DX 2517 doesn't have a good echo sound, it just keeps repeating itself. Is there another kind of echo board you can put in it?

RF limited TBR-2 turbo echo board. It will plug in to the factory wires with no alterations. It will give you much more control.

My radio squeals with echo when my amps on

adjust your talkback to just open then set your echo to where you want it. Now turn your amp on and re-adjust both the talkback and the echo . If you have a speaker nearby the radio may be feeding back through it so move it away from your radio . Now start talking with the mic and adjust your echo because you should be able to hear yourself talk through your talkback.

How to install echo board in a Galaxy 2547

  • The DX2547 is the same as a Galaxy 959 - a SSB/AM CB radio. The standard of echo boards is the TRB-X2. This installs the same way in most CB radios. I have uploaded an instruction sheet here http://minus.com/lbkZJ6ZfR6qbEY Very easy to follow. If you happen to have any further questions please feel free to ask..

  • Hope this helps.

How to install echo board in a Galaxy 2517

  • This radio already has an echo board installed in it from the factory. On the bottom set of knobs, left side, over three knobs. That knob is your echo/delay knob. No need to install one. Just turn it on.

  • Hope this helps.

The echo bored has been cranked way up need to know how to back it down some way

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Modding the echo board could be done by changing the value of a component, either a resistor or a capacitor other than the TIME and/or ECHO variable controls.

The only way to check would be to compare the component values against factory specified values. Sorry, it has to be an on-site diagnosis. Perhaps the schematic diagram of the echo board would help.

My 2517 talks good after awhile on it it just drop out like dont have no mod but receive good let it cool it go back workin fine any idea? shows when this happens it shows on radio signal moving none on...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

On a MOSFET version of a Galaxy DX2517 and assuming stock mic, heat related issues of missing modulation would require initial checks of:
  • echo circuit - board EB-2000 EPT0SSB51J;
  • mic amp - IC7 NJM4558D;
  • AF power amp - Q53 to Q55.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

148GTL Cobra (no tx)

Bad transmitter. You can:
1) take it to a repair shop
2) get a new radio
3) repair the transmitter with a stock replacement transmitter
4) check the inside of the radio, make sure everything is where it's supposed to be
5) make sure that you are using the correct power supply for the unit

If the problem is too extensive and you consider getting a new radio similar to the 148GTL, try the Galaxy DX 2527. It's a BIG radio. But it's production was discontinued. If you can't find a Galaxy DX 2527, try a Galaxy DX 2517, it's similar to the DX 2527, but with less features, but has great sound, I get nothing but good comments when I talk on it. The DX 2527 has an okay transmitter, it doesn't sound all too good by itself, so that's why you have the echo and robot voice changer options.

Hope this helps!

Sounds like to me that one or more of the switches are dirty. Open the unit with the power disconnected and purchase a spray can of electrical contact cleaner. Spray all of the switches and volume controls on the inside. Rotate all of the controls several times, back and forth to work the contact cleaner into the controls. Repeat as necessary. Over time, these switches get dirty and they don't make a good connection. The cleaner will restore continuity to the switches.

Good Luck,
- Jim
