I have the same problem. Our SAMSUNG HLS5687WX (model) made a loud pop. The picture went dead & a few seconds later the sound stopped. A crackling was coming out of the tv until we unplugged it. It smelt like plastic burning. This tv is only 14 months old. (The 3 lights started flashing also.)

I had the exact same problem with my TV turning off for no reason. If those two lights are blinking in the front it means your TV thinks the lamp door is open and shuts down. In my case i had to open the door and adjust the spring lever because it was not making good enough contact.

Hope that helps.

SOURCE: samsung HL-S5687W dlp tv, the picture is darker

Hi

Well for what you describe it sounds like the symptoms of a worn out lamp giving you the last kicks, basically the the lamps are design to go for 6,000 to 8,000 lamp hours if they're Phillips and a generic lamp could give you 3500 to 4500 lamp hours so with this in mind you could search for a new lamp at Discount-merchant.com or you can go to Ebay also you can go to www.fixyourdlp.com for more troubelshooting

SOURCE: MY SAMSUNG HL-S5687W TURNS OFF BY ITSELF.

From what I have read the most frequent solution to this problem is that the lamp door has become loose and that microswitch on it needs to be reset. Simply loosen the screw to the lamp door and open it a little bit and then close it again making sure that the door is closed tightly and retighten the screw.

Unfortunately, the second most common problem is that the main DMD digital board has developed a problem which is much more expensive to replace.

Samsung DLP has gone darker

The 60 K hours is bogus---Average life on a OEM lamp is 2,000 hours or two years average---if you got four or more years you were lucky.

I am having problems with my Samsung HL-S5687W 56 in. HDTV Television It is turning on ok then shuts off after a minute or so.Do you have any recommendations

i have seen before that model have some problems with the lamp door switch. check the back of the tv and make sure that the lamp door is secure otherwise it can be possibly a color wheel or even lamp failure. if you have never replaced the lamp then i would lean more towards that as the root of your problems.

When we turn the TV on, a red light starts to blink but no image or sound is displayed. How can this be fixed?? And What is causing this? my TV model is HL-s5679w

The Blinking light is an error code, most likely you just need to replace the bulb which is fairly easy, there is an access panel on the back and you should be able to replace your self. A new bulb should include basic instructions here is a link price is $110

You need to go into setup and see what TV Mode you are in.

Movie is usually darker then normal. Do you still have the manual?
