Possible backlights not working

I can barely see my screen display. I am told the backlights are not working. do I have to replace the screen or is it a simple fuse blown? Toshiba satellite A55-S1063. Display goes dark after startup. Can see the desktop if I shine a light on it. Tried the troubleshooting tips in the manual but still unable to resolve. Please help.

I have the same 'backlight not working' problem and I took the advice given here and purchased a brand new high voltage module P/N G71C00011221 with a 2006 date. Seller assured it was new, never used.

Problem is, the new stick did not change the symptoms. Anyone have any idea of the voltages I should be seeing out of the device or some other test idea?

    Thanks.

The inverter board inside the display needs to be replaced. That's the circuit board that generates power for the backlights. Replacement parts are available from a number of vendors online in the range of $40 to $50. Changing the inverter is not difficult, it just involves a little patience and some work with small tools to open the display and get to the board. Several websites and YouTube videos show the process in detail.

One vendor I have used a couple of times is www.sparepartswarehouse.com. You need to search for your particular model number (the system unit number on the bottom of the laptop) to find the inverter you need.

There are two causes, the inverter board, " just under the LCD screen" more likely, or the backlight behind the display, "less likely"

My Sony VAIO Laptop screen is black. It worked fine, no issues2 days ago. Went to turn it on last night and it is black.. When light hits at a certain angle, I can see the desktop, I can hear the startup...

A faint and barely visible image on the screen indicates that the backlight(s) that illuminates the display isn't powering on. A device called an inverter board takes DC power from the laptop motherboard and converts it to AC power to power the screen backlight.
Before attempting anything below, be sure and remove the laptop battery and unplug the laptop
You need to take the screen apart and check to make sure that no cables are loose that are connected to the inverter board. If everything is secure, the next thing I would do is try to test the inverter board by hooking up an LCD from another laptop to the inverter and turning the laptop on to see if it lights up. If the other screen does light up, then the inverter board is likely good and your backlight needs to be replaced. Backlight replacement, unfortunately, can be very tricky for even an experienced technician, and many will opt to just replace the entire screen.
If you can't test the inverter board, then it might be worth it to order one and see if installing it fixes the problem.
Youtube is a great place to check for instructional videos on laptop repair, such as this one:

Good luck!

I swiched off my laptop inspiron 1000 at the off switch. when I put it back on the back light did not work

how do you know it is the backlight? Usually people think that's it but it is the inverter.
f the backlight of your laptop stopped working and the image on the screen is so dim that you can barely see it under bright light, most likely you have a failed inverter board. There is a good chance to fix the problem if you replace the inverter board. If you replace the inverter board but the image is still dim, most likely there is a problem with the backlight lamp inside the LCD screen. If that's the case, try to replace the LCD screen. Note: it's much easier to disassemble the laptop display panel when the display panel is separated from the laptop.

I can definitely fix either way if you are out of warranty from dell.

Phone display is very dim-can barely read

Well, first you will have to check your options, if you can read it enough to get in there.  You may have the backlight turned off.  If the backlight is not turned off, then you probably have a bad backlight and will have to take it to your provider to get it fixed.  Replacing a screen/backlight is not something I would attempt to do unless you are certain you know exactly what you are doing as you can render the phone completely useless.

GPS screen no longer lights up

If you can't control it with the controls, then most likely the backlight has died. The entire LCD display will need to be replaced as the backlight is integrated into the LCD display.

Your LCD backlight is not working. You will either need to get it fixed or have the LCD assembly replaced altogether. If your computer is under warranty, Toshiba will perform this repair. Otherwise, take it to a local service shop.

Unfortunately the cause is normally the screen itself or the inverter board

Black Screen

Is the power source good - AC adapter or batteries?

If ok, it sounds like the backlight for the LCD display is going bad. Many LCD displays these days have an integrated backlight that is built into the display so the entire display will need to be replaced.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good Luck,

Startup problems

Hi,

Based on your post/description "barely make out the screen" you have a backlight problem which can either be the CCFLamp or the inverter that powers it. The problem may be component failure, heat related or cold solder, loose connection.

Since this would involve opening the screen display panel, electronic circuitry diagnosis and possibly component replacement, your best bet might be to seek the services of a qualified repair person. To give you an idea of the possible cost, pls refer to this site.

Should you venture into giving it a go for yourself, this site might be able to give you an idea how it is done. This link is a possible source of replacement components.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
