I lost my manual, I need to know how to transform the crib into a toddler bed

Converting a Simplicity Crib into a Toddler Bed:

Please note, Simplicity has gone out of business and the Simplicity Cribs should NOT be used as cribs. They were sold at Walmart, Target and BabiesRUs. The word on the street is that Walmart is the easiest to deal with when it comes to returning them. Those who wish to return Simplicity cribs don't need a receipt, they can just take them to Walmart for store credit. BabiesRUs was apparently giving about $65 while Walmart was closer to $190. Again, this is just what I have heard from others.

You can find the specific information on the Simplicity recall here.

If you do want to use your Simplicity crib as a Toddler Bed, I have not read any warnings against this. Again, I might just take it to Walmart anyway and get a store credit and perhaps buy a new convertible crib. You can get some great ones on Amazon for around $150 with delivery included.

I would pack it up, take it in for store credit, and get a new crib!

You can get some great deals these days on cribs, there's a great one on Amazon for $150 with free shipping so it's kind of a no-brainer.

As I have heard, Walmart will take it back, no questions asked and no receipt necessary and you can get a brand new one with brand new parts, brand new instructions and no recalls or risks!

Good Luck.

If you still want to convert it, here is what you need to do:

1. Remove the front panel of the Simplicity crib. Use an Allen wrench and 45mm bolts (there should be extras underneath the crib, along with an Allen wrench, but if there aren't then you can pick some up at your local hardware store.)

2. Check the mattress support. It needs to be in the lowest position available, which will allow the toddler to get in and out of bed easily. It is also the only position that will make the rails line up properly with the pre-drilled bolt holes. To lower the mattress, unscrew the four bolts from the four corners of the mattress support and slide the support down. The holes for the lowest setting are just about the bottom wood panels. Use your Allen wrench to reattach the mattress support with the same bolts you pulled out when the mattress was in the higher position.

3. Attach the toddler bed rails to the crib frame. Use two 38mm Allen bolts on each rail. There are pre-drilled holes in both the rail and the crib frame. Line up the holes and then loosely screw the bolts into place. The bottom of each rail has a metal L-shaped hook. This will slide under the mattress support. Use a 19mm Allen bolt to attach this piece to the mattress support. When everything is lined up and screwed in loosely, go back and tighten each bolt. Repeat on the other side.

4. Check the entire crib frame for loose bolts. Use the Allen wrench to tighten all the screws. Toddlers can be rough on their beds, so it is important to make sure the bed is safe. You should recheck for loose bolts often. Jumping and climbing on the bed can easily loosen the bolts and screws.

5. Don't forget to hang onto the front panel and store it carefully, you will need it later to convert the bed into a full sized bed.

I have a canton 4-1 crib but have lost the manual on how to assemble it into a full size bed, does anyone know where i can obtain this information, thanks

Are you sure you lost the manual? It took us all day to discover it was attached to the crib base under the mattress. We have a different simplicity crib but it needs either rails or you buy a full-size bed frame from a mattress store and attach it with the headboard adaptor plates and screws they gave you.

Graco 3-in-1 crib instructions

Check this CPSC link.

Most if not all of the simplicity brand cribs have been recalled reguardless of whether they had wood or metal mattress supports.

There were 2 different recalls on the wood version but both were recalled for the drop-side issues.

This link specifically includes the Aspen 3 in 1 cribs and model #: 8740

We took ours to our local walmart last summer (we purchased it in a different state almost 8 years ago). I brought to cpsc report with me. They had not issue with the recalled information we has matching it to our crib. It did take the clerk a bit to find our crib in their system because it was older, but once she did we recieved a full refund, without a receipt.

As far as changing them to a toddler bed. When we converted ours to a toddler bed we simply removed the drop-side from the crib. The drop-side parts can be unscrewed from the side rails. Then we screwed the toddler rails to the bottom of the crib. Ours had screw holds for the toddler rails on the mattress support. If you do not have the holes for it, then you may have put the mattress support on backwards ie with the side that has the holes for the toddler bed rails on the backside of the crib.

I Need to order bed rails for simplicity for children 4-in-1 crib

When Simplicity went out of business Graco took over. However, Simplicity under went a massive recall and from what I understand, Graco is not providing parts to their cribs. I would recommend going to the Consumer Product Safety Commision's website at www.cpsc.gov to see if your crib is one of the re-called ones. If not then you will probably have to have those made for you seeing as how most manufacturers stop producing conversion parts when they stop producing the cribs.

Need instructions on how to convert my aspen simplicity crib into a toddler bed?

i think this is the same crib that i have. I remove the front rail that slides up and down, then i removed the plastic contraptions that allow it to slid up and down on. I then attached the bed frame on the lowest setting, by first fastening the two back ends first. Then I attached the toddler rails to the bottom of the bed frame and then once they where on I attached the bed frame to the crib with the rails and the brackets for the bed frame pressed together. I hope i explained it so that i makes sense.

Problem install matress support

This is intended for the Simplicity Ellis 4-in-1 crib not the Aspen. My hubby just put together the toddler bed, and he had a problem with securing the screws of the metal mattress support to the crib. He put the screws one by one and there was a gap of nearly 1/2 inch from the crib. He resolved this problem by putting the screws on all four ends of the mattress support, then he tightened the back rail screws (the higher end) first and when he tightened the front rail screws the gap automatically disappeared. I hope I am clear enough on this as I'm not the one who installed this crib, but as he was quite frustrated I thought this might be able to help others who may have the same problem.
