I have the same problem on my pc which has been working fine until very recently when it suddenly "died". The blue "on" switch is lit but there is no other sign or sound of power in the hard drive. Do you know what might be wrong?

Your pc has just died and since you don't get any error beeps it means that it's a critical failure: it's either the power source or the motherboard. Simple test to determine which: take out the power source completely off the case, plug it in the power cord, locate in the ATX power connector (the big, 20 pins one) the green wire then join it (a paper clip will do) to the black one(the ground) next to it: if the fan starts the the power source is basically on - test the rest of the voltages , the code for them is on the label. If the power source is ok then the motherboard has failed, you will have to replace it.
did you recently install a new hardware ? did you recently install a new software? if you answered yes to any of these questions above you need remove it. therefore if you installed a new hardware safely shut down and remove cables and remove hardware.( if it is hardware the hardware is not compatible with windows) if it a software boot in safe mood then uninstall software. ( to boot in safe mood, press F8 while computer in turned on )
That's Blue Screen of Death. Start up ur pc in safemode by pressing F8 key while booting and uninstall any recent hardware or software installations. Or try System Restore to an earlier date. If u failed to boot up ur pc even in Safemode, make a clean and fresh OS installation.
The motherboard seems OK as it is displaying signs of life. The Monitor should display something before booting up, which it is not. Please do the following.
1. Remove the RAM and reinsert the DIMMs into their sockets and boot up.
2. Disconnect the HDD data cable from the HDD and the motherboard and reconnect. Boot up.
3. Disconnect the monitor and reconnect. Boot up.
At boot up press F2 and set the PC to default settings. Boot up. Later when you want to apply your settings, keep noting down what you did when. Just in case.
Do you mean the F8 key which is what gets you to safe mode. You must keep tapping the button as you switch on and keep tapping until you see a new screen, select the hard drive you wish to boot to and keep tapping then it opens black screen grey corners, you really should check all you connections before you try to switch the machine on.Common cause for blue screen (hardware) loose ide /sata cable to harddrive, pull out and push back tight, check the same for power cable to drive, if not hardware then it will be software, so you should remove any recent drivers or programs you recently installed by going into safe mode, then try to start normally.Failing all of the above you may have caught a virus or malware, malwarebytes is a good start to check the system for probs.Good luck!!
Try pressing F8 as your machine gets ready to start windows. Keep tapping it until you get a menu. You can try "most recent settings that worked" or failing that try starting Windows in safe mode. If it will start in safe mode regress it to a point before your failed download using System Restore. If it won't start at all, you may need to reinstall Windows.
