Boot sequence / bios password issues with Acer Aspire 5100

I have what is termed the 'black screen of death' on my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. I want to re install windows, but cannot change the boot sequence in the bios as I don't have the bios password. I have never set a bios password so don't understand why it is asking for one. The laptop was bought brand new. Is there an alternative way to change the boot sequence or to boot from cd.
Can I remove my bios password?

Any help appreciated.

Chris After setting up the Bio protection finger scan feature. My BIOS password no longer works!
Product:Acer Travlemate 6292
Yesterday, I thought it would be cool to setup the finger scan feature on my new labtop. Big mistake!!
It takes 20-50 tries to login to my system because the finger scanner doesn't work well. The big deal is the
BIOS password I setup through F2-BIOS setup is not reconizing. ****!
I am a technology professional and know what a disaster that is. So, I think back to set-up...When first
activating the finger scan feature I had to walk through a "windows setup" wizard. With in that wizard it
had me set a BIOS password. I used what I set up initially in the BIOS and thought "wierd, you can set the BIOS
password through software?" but continued through the wizard. What happened? Why is my BIOS password not working?
I need this resolved because the finger scanner is not consistant and eventually I won't be able to login.
I have found two forums where users have had the same exact issue. Same Laptop and everything.

http://www.geek.com/forums/topic/acer-6292-bios-password
Is this a reaccuring issue for ACER's finger scan technology?
I am frustrated that I even tried to activate the finger nav. feature!
Please help,
Bethany

Hoping you are using some version of windows OS. Go to safe mode... press the power button to boot and while booting keep pressing F8 which will allow you to go to safe mode and reboot the machine if you are able to sucessfully able to go to safe mode. Now boot to normal mode as usual boot. If you still notice BSOD(blue screen of death) then once more go to safe mode and uninstall the new softwares if you have installed any on your laptop recently like graphics device driver or audio driver so on.... if you are not sure of new softwares installed.. use system restore method in safe mode to restore the system to older date it should resolve your problem. system restore tool of windows will be in start-> program -> accesories-> system tools-> system restore.
