Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

GE Projection TV model # 46GW944 won't "start"

We have a GE projection TV model# 46GW944. When we troed to turn it on it came on, then there was a slight pop sound and the picture/sound were gone.

I opened the front cover to look inside. There is a small black box, smells a little burnt, when I turn the TV on and off there is a small flash and click sound from the back of this peice. There are many removeable wires entering the box. It appears everything runs into this box in order to "start" the TV.

I'm guessing this is my problem. If you agree can you tell me where I might locate a replacement part?

Thank you for your help.

That is the HV distribution block. The wires running into it are thicker red wires. (There should be 4 or 5 of them). The part number is 205064. If you decide to do this, make sure the power is OFF for about 15 minutes and the unit is unplugged. There are 30000 VOLTS on those wires when the TV operating. Please rate this solution and let me know if I can be of further assistance

My tv attemps to turn on sound starts but when picture starts the system turns off.GE model d52gw12

This set shares the same chassis as some of the RCA models so More than likely a problem with the Horizontal deflection or the flyback transformer. Its not really something that the average person should take on and without the proper test equipment you could do more damage than good. But thats a starting point.

46 inch rear projection tv bulb replacement model number 46gw944

1) In customer menu, adjust all video controls to center, then
increase "picture" to 3/4
2)Locate focus/screen adjust block above chassis...adjust
RGB screen controls for best mixture = B/W tracking..
Check with customer color level at minimum..should look gray.
If you turn screen controls up too much, you will see faint
re-trace lines in picture.....once B/W looks good,put color level
back to middle...................................................T.
