I was using my sharp carousel microwave and there was a strange electrical burning smell coming from it. Food inside microwave did not get hot. Any ideas of what could have gone wrong? John

Hello John044,
Chances are you've experienced an arc of some sort within it and if it is not working now, I would assume that your Magnetron, Filament Transformer of HV Capacitor failed and that is what you are smelling. Unfortunately, none of them are user servicable items so I would reccomend that you scrap that one.. The cost to repair would exceed the cost to replace,,, I am sure that isn't what you wanted to hear but those are the facts...

Maybe. The presence of metallic material (foil, stainless steel silverware, etc.) in an operating microwave oven creates electric arcs between the foil and the inside wall of the oven. And this can destroy the electric components.

The problem maybe the magnetron, or the inverter board if 7 years old or less, and possibly the keypad control board, by the time you add parts and labour cheaper to replace the microwave oven in the long run.

Is there anything we can do to remove the smell of burned food from the microwave? The smell has permeated the inside of the unit and emits the burned food smell whenever it is used.

I've adviced you to placed charcoal inside the unit overnight or when it is not in used.
Charcoal will absorb the upleasant odor from your microwave oven.

I have a general electric microwave it works but will not heat food and when i turn it on it smells like something is burning

inspect plastic coupling beneath tray.
Check ring and roller assembly for misalignment or debris.
Make sure that tray is sitting properly on turning mechanism.
If carousel motor is broken, contact a service technician.

The Microwave is a Sharp Smart Carousel Model R-2130JS The food contains get hot but not the food

This model uses an inverter to product high voltage.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.
