Westbend breadmaker. Can't get the pan to lock in

I have tried to turn the paddle, turn the part on the bottom of the machine.  It goes down into the circle area but won't turn to lock.  I don't know if it is the pan or the machine.  The unit is probably 10 years old and is used a lot.  I don't know if it is worthwhile to try to troubleshoot it.
thanks!

I just tried this, its not a great solution, but a solution none the less. I lined the locking mechanism with parchment paper. With a little bit of trial and error I figured out the right amount to add enough stiffness so the bread pan does not flop about. Tin foil might work work as well. This may create a fire hazard so you will have to keep an eye out for the bread maker.

Is there anything I can do?

I don't know about your specific model, but in most bread makers there is a removable paddle that goes in the bottom of the bread pan after you put that in the machine. The paddle usually has a flattened side on the hole which slides on to the post sticking up from the bottom of the machine. If you look at the post straight down from above it should be D shaped. The usual procedure is to put the pan in the machine, install the paddle, and then add your ingredients. Assuming you are doing this and it is still not working, trying running it through a mix only cycle (like for pizza dough) with the machine empty to see if the paddle is engaging and spinning properly. If it is not, contact the manufacturer for assistance.

Cbk 200 does not preheat/clicking sound/doesn't knead

You may have a broken belt (not uncommon) Unplug your machine, remove the pand and paddle and turn the machine on its side. See if you can remove the metal panel on the bottom of the machine. Once you do that you will see if your belt is broken or has slipped off. It it is either of these you can reach me at breadmachineshelp.com I can then tell you how to get your belt back on or replace it.

The spindle that holds the paddle won't turn. It's stuck tight.

It may be hard to turn by hand but does it turn when the machine is
turned on? If so it is OK even if you can't turn it by hand

When do you take out knead bar

The knead bar or paddle is taken out after the bread is finished baking and the loaf is removed from the bread pan.

Can't remove paddle

Hi Nancy, If it were one of the metal ones coated with Teflon I would advise something different. Since it is plastic you will need to soak it again overnight with some soapy water. Tomorrow get a toothpick and begin to pick at the bread gunk in the little gap between the post and the flat edge of the post where the bread gunk collects. Once you clear enough of that out a little wiggling side to side and especially up and down should free your paddle. Fortunately B&D's usually have enough of a gap where you can do what I describe. Some paddles fit so snugly there is no gap to work with. Whatever you do don't use anything metal to try and free your paddle, you could damage the teflon coating on your pan and you never want to do that. Let me know how it goes.....

The motor will turn on it's own but will not turn the kneading blade in the pan when that is put into the breadmaker. makes a soft "thunk" as it tries to turn it. It's like the gizmo at the...

Hi, First, the take empty pan and paddle out of the machine. Try to spin the paddle by hand. If it spins freely that's great. If it does not spin freely the sealed bearing that allows the paddle to spin has failed and you will need a new bread pan. If everything is okay, keep the pan out of the machine and go to a kneading cycle. Look through the window to see if the motor shaft is turning. If not then the belt is loose or fell off. Hank

My machine counts down time, but the paddles don't rotate, they are free to do so as I took out the pan. when I restart the setting I get a Hor notification on the time area.

That may mean that your machine is detecting that it is not at the right temp and some machines heat up for a few minutes before the paddles start to turn. Try pushing the start button for the Basic bread program and wait 5 or 10 minutes. The paddles should start to turn.....Let me know if this works thanks!

Most bread machine paddles fit kind of loose so you can get them off for cleaning. Try turning on your machine like you were going to bake a loaf but don't put any ingredients in. Just watch, you won't hurt anything doing this, you are just trying to see if your paddles are turning or not. If they are turning then your problem is something other than the paddles.

The machine gets warm but the paddle doesn't turn.

Hi, The paddle should turn freely by hand with the bread pan out of the machine. Make sure the pan is inserted in the machine correctly. If the motor shaft turns but the paddle doesn't then the sealed bearing that the paddle rotates on has failed and is frozen so the paddle does not turn.. You may need a new bread pan. Hank
