3 year old GE dishwasher dead!

I have a 3 year old GE GHDA455 dishwasher that does not work. I have cycled the breaker which causes the normal wash and heated dry light to light up, but none of the controls respond and it shuts off completely in about 10 minutes (lights shut off..the washer never actually works). This is the third GE appliance out of the four I purchased in December of 05 to either die or develope a major issue. Any suggestions? I really cannot afford a new dishwasher at this point.

Buy a different brand of washing machine. I suggest a front loading one because they use so little water and they are cost effective and actually pay for themselves.

Can you explain the issue in detail - is your dishwasher not working at all, or the buttons continue to be lit up, etc?

First and foremost, check the dooe switch to see if it is functioning properly.

You have the control lock activated. Press and hold the heated dry pad for 5 seconds and it should unlock it

disassemble front door to get to the latch. Check if the latch is properly in place, sometimes the metal cylinder that hold it in place, slips out of position.

The drying fan and vent system seems faulty.

Refer this diagram. Item 918.
I will go through the manual to see if I find anything else.

Can you try in the ECO cycle which does not require drying to confirm the problem is only with the drying cycle.

The start light is flashing on my GE dishwasher?

What's the model number? How old is this dishwasher? The new GE dishwashers (less than 3 years old) have a weakness in the door switch/latch assembly, and that would cause the light to flash - it wants you to press Start and close the door, but it's not recognizing that the door is closed.

GE Triton arms don't spin

Peace,
Cut off the power at the breaker for 5 minutes and then turn it on and see if the system resets!
How old is the machine?

Other wise you need hands on service! And a new machine will pay for itself in only a few years!

Bless You!

DIshwasher Cycle TIme INcreases by 20 minutes over two years

Try cutting the breaker off for 5 min, This will reset the control. The issue is in order for a dishwasher to clean the dishes properly the water in the dishwasher needs to be at least 120 deg f. If its not the dishwasher keeps adding more time with the heater on to try to achieve this temp. The dishwasher only uses about 1 gallon of water per fill so if the water heater is a ways away or the temp is not hot enough, the water temp in the dishwasher will not reach 120.
