There should be the key, and a X movement piec of white plastic that it connects to with a rubber nipple in the center.

did the white X bracket come off also, or just the Key?

If its just the key itself, then look at the bottom of it. One side will have push in clips and the other will have littl flapped groves. you lay the key on the keyboard and slide the groved part into the nubs that are on the X bracket and then press down to push the clips onto the cliped part.

Thats about it.

Its hard to be any more detailed as this is delciate work. You should slide then push down.

you will have to determine the direction based off looking at the bottom of the key.

SOURCE: dell notebook keyboard malfunction

I suspect just as you suggested something was spilled on it. Other than loose keys laptop keyboards are generally not repairable. They are not that difficult to replace, but check the Service Manual before deciding to do it yourself.

DELL INSPIRON 1525 HELP

It should be a simple fix. Start your laptop and pay attention to the screen. Press the F12 key (or F11) to enter "SETUP" then find the NUMLOC command and make sure that its DISABLED or OFF. This will turn this option off andyou will only be able to use the number's keys on the top of the keyboard. Be careful when entering SETUP. You don't want to change anything you don't have to.

Keyboard on inspiron 1525 locked . Cant type any character.

Look on your keyboard. On most laptops there is a function key that will lock the keyboard. You would need to pres the [Fn] key and the appropriate [F#] key. In mine the combination would be [Fn+F1] keys.

The F8 and F9 keys on my Dell Inspiron 1525 are messed up. Do you know where I might purchase those two keys from?

Hi there,

Dell is notorious for shipping several different types of keyboards (as far as the tiny parts under the keys are concerned) from different manufacturers. While the entire unit fits and plugs in exactly right, chancing replacing keys is risky. I speak from experience having repaired 100's of Dell laptops.

I recommend buying a new keyboard from one of the vendors at the link below. Then go to Dell support and you'll find your Service Manual there to replace the keyboard. It's relatively simple.

It's worth the 15 bucks...believe me

You don't have to buy a whole new keyboard to replace few keys. Try taking off the key cap and its retainer clips (plastic pieces underneath the key cap). Repair it yourself with the help of this video:

How do i get my enter button back on my inspiron 1525?

The keys just pop on and off. If the key will not snap back on, then the keyboard will most likely need replacement.
Replacement keyboards are less than $20

Certain letters are not working

When keys go faulty the entire keypad needs replacing. You can't replace individual keys. I would suggest contacting dell and ordering a new keyboard, it's an easy fix: http://www.essortment.com/articles/install-replacement-keyboard-dell-inspiron_102151.htm
If you need to purchase one, I did locate: http://yallstore.com/laptop-keyboard-replacement-for-dell-inspiron-1525-p-4228.html For $16
