HP 6110 error message "clear carriage jam"

How do I try to follow "open door" (which I know how to do) "clear carriage jam" (which I do not know how to do). This machine worked well until recently. There have not been any paper jams, or recently cartridge problems or replacement of cartridges.

I am the person who submitted this problem. After trying reset several times without success, I have noticed that the machine seems to be cycling through a plurality of errors. Sometimes it won't accept any commands from its keyboard, not even allowing it to be turned off. Upon depowering/repowering with # and 6 buttons depressed for full reset, sometimes it will come back on and get stuc, on "initializing", while upon other resets, it will show a different message. But none of its functions will actually function. Makes me suspect software flaws. I will try the "clean Glass" suggestion.

    Hi Lost2woods!

I have exactly the same problem on my officejet 6110. HP South Africa helped my with resetting the unit (# and 3, # and 6 and # and 9) for the various resets but no help. I cleaned all connecters and rotary as well as linear encoders on the carraige as well as all opto switches(like door open and lid open etc)

"The printer is too old and are no longer supported...it it cheaper to replace it than to bring it in for service/repair" ....is what i was told.

It does have a lot of nice motors if you're into electronics/robotics like i'm...guess I'll have to put a HP label on my 'bot!

No one from "FixYa" provided me any useful solutions to try. Following the HP reset instructions many cycles did not work. By accident, I finally got the HP 6110 working again by unplugging it from the Monster brand surge protector power strip, depowering both for a period of about one hour, then repowering the power strip, then plugging in the HP 6110 and going through its reset function once more. Plugging the HP 6110 directly into the wall outlet into which the power strip was/is plugged did not solve the problem. Note that gremlins in that same power strip also adversely affected my ZyXel DSL modem, or perhaps spurious backfeed signals from that DSL modem affected the HP unit. Sorry, I'm not able to provided any explanations as to why this worked; I am not a digital/PC'electronics person. I was about to tear the machine apart to clean all the surfaces and mirrors as others had recommended, or buy a replacement.

I just changed the (2) ink cartridges in my HP PCS 1610 All-in-One HP printer and now get an error message "CARRIAGE JAM - OPEN DOOR. CLEAR CARRIAGE JAM, AND THEN PRESS OK." I don't see any jam...

Have you tried moving the carriage to see if it really is jammed? Maybe you haven't put the levers down properly on your new cartridges....remove them, see if the carriage slides, then refit them and check the carriage again. You wont visually 'see' a carriage jam,; you have to try moving it. By the way, if it doesn't move, DONT force it to try and overcome the jam try and reason out why it doesn't move.
Hope this helps!

It seems you mistook Carriage Jam as Paper Jam, but they are different issues. Carriage jam means the carriage that carries the cartridges is jammed which needs to be moved or be cleared manually after opening the door.

Please follow the instructions mentioned here (Click Here) [source HP Support].

Good Luck.

Error message= open door clear carriage jam and

I think the message is instructions, as in
(1) open door (2) clear carriage jam (3) press enter
So there is something internal to the printer that makes it think it has a carriage jam, piece of paper under a sensor, dirty or stuck sensor.
If you can't find it using a bright light, try canned air.

yes, that is a carriage jam and not paper, the grinding is from the clean station that gets blocked with dried ink and cant move. you need to open the printer and clean the ink off of the clean station so it can clean properly and not cause a carriage jam.

After opening door printer cartridges do not slide to middle

Hi

When you close the door do you notice that it makes lots of noises like the carriage is getting stuck somewhere???

If yes then you need to really watch this and see where it is getting stuck it is most likely to be a prong that has come loose or the slide next to the carriage jam on the far right hand side has become very dirty.

Also check where the carriage sits make sure that is not full off ink USE GLOVES putting your hands in the printer it can get very messy,

let me know if that has helped.
