. It has an antiglare coating that gives it a dull shine when turned off. On a reflective screen like or Dell screens with TrueLife you'll easily see your reflection with the screen powered off. The coating is not annoying and appears to be uniform over the panel.
Unfortunately, here is where the Samsung LCD panels fail. Black is some shade between grey and black over the entire screen. There is even a characteristic pattern in Samsung screens where the center seems to have the least leakage and there's a small circle about the size of a USA quarter in the top center where there is no leakage at all. If you like deep true blacks then this system will not please you. However, I do want to note that normally it's not noticeable unless you're playing a dark game like Doom 3 or others where there are large dark areas on maps. Light leakage on both the 6000 and XPS2 Samsung screens is minimal at the bottom, but it is there.
Color on the 6000 and any Dell Samsung screen is warm and dull without adjustment. You'll want to immediately jump into your video properties and adjust your contrast, brightness, and others. I like a contrast of about 111%, brightness of 98%, and a gamma of 89%. One of the drawbacks of having an ATi card is that there is no digital vibrance control which really livens up the picture on my XPS2 to make the colors on par with a Sony and Princeton Graphics Senergy LCD. You'll want to play with the color settings and other programs at some point if you're really concerned about having your colors jump out and catch your eye. For most people the simple adjustment I outlined above should be enough.

The backlight is not functioning, check the cables between the monitor and the motherboard, make sure backlight is at max, theres a button combination for that and it debends on laptop, surely documented in the manual.
you need to replace the backlights most likely

The dark screen with faint, hard to see display is due to the failure of (i) CCFL (Cold Cathode Florecent Lamp) OR LED, which is the back light or the (ii) Inverter board, which provides high voltage to the CCFL. So, it is recommended that you get it properly checked by any professional for replacement of CCFL/LED.

GoodLuck!

Hi dejandan1

Sorry to hear you are having problems. The very fact you tried an external monitor shows you have some good IT skills. As long as you know this monitor works it is a good test. As you have no image try toggling the video output signal by using Fn (Function) and the CRD/LCD (Cathode Ray Tube/Liquid Crystal Display) keys or Alt (Alternate) and the CRD/LCD keys.
philswift_7.jpg

If this does not workthen it is either
1. Laptop on board graphics failure
2. Laptop LCD panel failure
3. Laptop inverter failure
4. Laptop backlight failure
Turn on your laptop and look closely at the screen, can you see what you would normally see but very very dark? If so it is the backlight. If you cannot see anything, which is likely, then it is the inverter, actual panle failure or grahipcs chips on the motherboard.

philswift.gif Above is a link and flow chart that will help you.
It is most cost effective to send or take the laptop in for repair. You can replace inverters yourself but there is guarantee it is that. If the graphics on the motherboard has failed then all you can do is have the motherboard replaced. If the laptop is slow and old it may be time to consider a new laptop. If the laptop is under warranty, goto the Fujitsu Siemens website and log a under warranty repair.

All the best, Phil

Hi There, I've been experiencing the same setback as Kenneth. My lenovo 3000 flashed off and even if I boot it, the screen is still black. How ca I fix it?./ Ty

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out, usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Laptop screen is totally blank as a duster with magnet was used to wipe the screen by erros

It is highly unlikely that using the magnetic duster could damage a LCD screen except putting scratches on the surface of the screen. There is nothing in a LCD screen that can be affected by a magnet. A magnet will affect a CRT monitor because a magnetic field will affect/deflect the electronic beams that hit the color phoaphorus dots on the screen.

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Dark screen with dull image in background

You may need to check your desktop image for your monitor and change it to something lighter
The external monitor usually uses your computer's default and not ncessarily the one from your laptop monitor

Without taking it apart myself, it could be some wiring from the laptop to the screen

The possible reasons is that you have turned down your brightness and contrast without realizing it, to fix this simply look for a brightness key on your keyboard and turn it up. If it is missing or did not fully work, see if you can notice any image and try to get into your Display properties, click the setting tab and go into advanced and turn up your brightness and contrast from there. If this does not work, im afraid to say you have damaged your LCD screen and this would result in your dull screen appearance. Get a computer technician to take a good look at it to see what has happened if this is the case

Hope This Helps

The issue could be one of 2 things. The image inverter or the LCD. From the description it could be either.

Both can be found here:

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=inspiron+6000+LCD&category0=

The inverter is fairly cheap ($20 to $50) the LCD around $150.
