SOURCE: washer won't spin or agitate

On this model the motor turns one way for spin and the other for agitation. This action is controlled by a thrust bearing located just undernieth the plastic cap on the center pully. Many people are thrown off thinking a transmission problem when it's actually this thrust bearing kit. However, it could be the trans. If so you have a 5 year warranty on it, part only. There is also a number of service flashes on this model including: snubber kit, flash number 26-756, which has to do with vibration during spin. Things you want to make sure of is that the pump is not seized up, leakage from the center tub on to the bearing and brake. You may want to call Maytag and inquire about the service flashes on this model, you could be covered. Other than that my guess without seeing it would be the thrust bearing kit, part number 12500036. Not a bad job, the kit comes with instructions. The hardest part is getting that last washer on. OK it may be one of 2 things. I would check the lid switch first. On some maytags the have a lid switch that if it is not working properly it will not let the washer fill. If it will not fill the washer will not wash because the pressure switch did not activate the timer to wash. If the switch checks good you might have a bad timer. If you open the control panel you will find a tech sheet with the wiring diagram. I would follow the fill cycle and check the components. You might also check the water valve to make sure its ok too. But its very rear that both the hot and cold would go at the same time. Good luck!

What would cause my maytag front load washer not to spin? It is a Maytag front load washer and it will not spin. The water drains out no problem just doesn't spin. Also the drum looks lower than it no

No agitation or spin? try these:

Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and
Drive Belt If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.

Drive Motor If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.

Stator Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Transmission or clutch assembly not engaging due to going out or slipping.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

Maytag washer tub will not spin.

There is a clutch assembly under the tub that controls the tub and the agitator. It sounds like the problem is with that.

Hi Vinod, the lock light is not on. The motor and belt seem okay; it agitates. I think lock light is supposed to come on only when tub is full. Again my manual says nothing on this!!

Will not spin on spin cycle

That is a single belt driven washer built by maytag. Check the lid switch for propah operation. If it is fine tip the washer back do an inspection of the beltthemobilian_2528.jpg
Check the pump for tightness sometimes they lock up or get something in em. If that is fine turn the main drive pulley and see if it releases the brake and lets the drum turn easily. One direction it locks the tub and agitates and the other direction is pumps out the water and spins.

Maytag Performa washer drum turns with agitator. Also the brake doesn't stop the drum at end of cycle or when cover lifted.

The first thing to check is the clutch. It's supposed to lock the inner tub and drive the transmission (agitator) when the motor turns in one direction, and spin the tub when the motor turns in the other direction. It's also possible the agitator drive shaft coming out of the transmission and the concentric tub drive shaft are frozen together (worst case) - this is usually caused by a bad bearing seal allowing water to leak into the shaft.

Lifting the lid during the spin cycle should disconnect power to the motor - maybe what you see is the tub continuing to spin because the transmission is acting as a flywheel. Either that, or the lid switch actuator is not working properly.

My washer doesn't wring the clothes out, they are sopping wet.

You are going to need this kit 12002213
Your washer features a main drive pulley with a cam riser the releases the brake and allows the tub to spin.
When the motor turns in one direction the tub is locked and the agitator moves back and forth. When the motor turns in the opposite direction the main drive pulley releases the brake and as the water gets propelled out the tub begins to spin. So what can go wrong? When the cam riser gets wear it won't release the brake. The tub won't move and the clothes will be soggy. Here is a great pictorial of what is involved in replacing the thrust kit. along with some manuals and other stuff. My Maytag notes

Maytag top load washer leak

underneath the agitator is a graphite seal ring and nut that seals the inner tub and the outer tub. a suitable spanner wrench or a 6 inch channel lock plier will remove this locknut. replace the seal.
