Restart printer after new cartridges installed

There always seems to be some sort of malfunction message that keeps the printer from normal operation, but the one most previlant is. Press Enter to align cartridges. Through a hp chat session we tried many different things like power down , hitting squential buttons etc. we were at changing the way the printer views the paper and default settings and I gave it up. It had been over an hour.

New carttridge alignment is done within a pc and requires a test print. What is the make and model of this printer. Do you have the software for this printer installed on your computer?

You can get this because of defective cartridges. Try replacing the cartridges with new ones first.

If you have gone already through a hp chat session, then it is nothing obvious, like unplug power cable, reset or reinstall drivers.

Try replacement cartridges and test a different USB cable, if this does not work test the printer on a different computer, the printer may be
    defective.

A semi-full reset will do the following:
The user settings to the factory defaults, Language and country settings on some models, Fax logs, Fax headers, Fax speed dial information.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on and wait for 20 seconds.

2. Then, press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.

This should resolve the issue.

Hp c6180 states cartridges missing or damaged

OK now this might seem bizarre, but did you go ahead and click the "Black Only" print option?

I have a C6180. Just installed all new cartridges. Tried to print and got the message that Cyan is empty. Tried all sorts of things. Then out of frustration clicked the Black Onl option. Document came out printed in color! Double checked with a picture that has lots of cyan colors. It all printed too! Go figure.

Installed new black ink cartridge, message keeps coming up that I need a new cartridge. I have cleaned, restarted my computer, everything I can think of. It still will not print. The message says to...

Even new cartridges can prove to be faulty; even more so ones that have be refilled. If you have exhausted the options in the print software (i.e. Test Print, Print Alignment, Head Cleaning, etc.) and the reseating of the cartridge a few times, then depending on your will for either try:
1. Go to the store and replace the cartridge telling them you think its faulty.
2. Firstly, Unplug the Printers connecting cable (USB, DB25, etc.).Then uninstall both the Printing software and Printer drivers (usually the same package) under "Add Remove Programs" (Windows OS). Restart the computer, then reinstall the Printer software (following the prompts on exactly when to reconnect the printer to the computer, *Important*), and then restart again.

New ink cartiges

My heavy handed daughter decided to change the cartridges herself by yanking the print carriage all the way from left to right, in the process pulling it offline from the drive belt. To resolve the problem I installed new cartridges and gently but firmly applied forward and lateral pressure to push the cartridge part way back to the left along the drive belt. The carriage then moved freely and upon restarting the printer, normal operation was resumed.

I only have black ink and the printer won't work. i don't want to replace the colored ink and the printer keeps asking to replace ink

No the printer cant operate if there is a cartridge missing or empty.
Q: Can the printer still print if an ink cartridge is expended or not installed? A: No. The printer will not operate if any cartridge is expended or removed. It’s best to always have extra cartridges on hand

Print cartridge will not align

This could be an issue from remanufacturing. Try a new cartridge from HP.

Many manufacturers have hardware in the cartridge and the printer that tell the printer "new cartridge". When a cartridge is refilled, you can have that giving a "bad" message.

I wish that I could be of more help.

When I replace the cyan cartridge with a new one I keep getting the message"No Cartridge"

hi!!! in that kind of problem maybe the sensor of the cartridge was damage thats why the sensor cannot detect when you install the cartridge. Try another cartridge or maybe try the to re-install old one if the printer detect the old cartridge that means the new cartridge was defective. Thanks

Hi tfonts,

This is normal behavior for proprietary print devices if you have not provided them with a new print cartridge and have instead filled them yourself.
