Gas dryer problem

My Roper gas dryer is almost 10 years old, and will heat but not tumble. Assuming it is a broken belt, is having a repairman replace the belt, with parts and labor, worth it, or should I buy a new dyer?

I need an answer please. why does my dryer tumbles but there is not heat. dryer 10 years old, should i replace or repair? thank you!

There is a common part that goes out after a decade on most dryers and it is called a "solenoid" which activates the heating function and turns heat on and off according to the setting you've commanded. The thermostat controls the degree and temp of heat, but when/if the solenoid fails ($20 part) there is NO HEAT that occurs. Dryers are very simple devices, hardly need replacing EVER, but with a repairman's help you should not have to spend much to get your machine working for another 10 years! Call a local repairman for the good news and have him fix it for you.

Dryer won't heat up

When is the last time you cleaned out the dryer venting? May be a blockage that is causing the no heat problem. Check directly behind the dryer and also outside at the vent cap. If it's a gas dryer, it will not have a heating coil. The gas burner lights with an igniter. Does the igniter glow orange when dryer is first turned on? If not, it may be broken. Look for broken ceramic piece below where it attaches and replace. Do not touch the ceramic piece on the new igniter, as it is very fragile.

My Roper elictric dryer is not drying clothes

If you are experiencing longer dry times and/or poor drying efficiency, the following link can give you some tihings to check before assuming there is a malfunction with your dryer:

The number one cause of dryer heat related problems is poor exhaust ventilation. If not vented properly, a dryer will not dry efficiently, will take longer than required to dry, and will cause the heating circuits to overheat to the point of failure. The dryer will actually seem hotter as the heating circuits begin to overheat. This is also the source of many fire hazards if not resolved. Read through the link provided and review some of the potential causes. Hopefully, this may save you a service call. If you check everything and still have poor heating issues, please let me know. You may have an internal bias or hi-limit thermostat malfunctioning.

Dryer heats but won't tumble

Assuming, the timer is ok and that you can hear the the dryer motor running, it sounds like a broken belt. These kind of failures generally occur suddenly - one day it works, the next day it doesn't.

My speed queen gas dryer drum will not tumble what do you think is wrong?

Most likely the drive belt is broken. If you pop off the panel at the bottom of the machine, you will probably find a broken belt on the inside. The belt itself isn't very expensive and the overall repair is around $75 to have a repairman out.

8 year old gas dryer that hasn't worked since the first year

if that is a gas dryer and you have some heat suspect the 2 black coils on the burner valve there are problems with them failing to to open valve after 1 or 2 heating cycles ..also be sure vent to outside to clear and hose on back not flattened or kinked also it needs to as short as possible..also RARELY thermal fuse has been know to be intermittant it is supposed to blow but not reset internal connections may be faulty jump it out temporarly to verify let me know outcome good luck

Sounds like you broke a belt, which is very easy for some of us to replace. If your uncomfortable with gas call a repairman.

Manufactures place alot of safe guards on gas appliances. Please dont be afraid of it, gas is still more efficent at drying than an electric dryer.

Taking the back off the dryer towards the bottom in the center there is a white pc.of plastic about 3 inches long and 3/8" wide. Its clipped on the inside panel and has a screw securing it. It has two wires clipped to it.Thats the fuse ! I got a replacement form the local Sears parts store for about $15.00.
