"adaptive defrost" ---- You don't take it out... it is a function of the main board. Do you mean removing the board or defrost heater?

This part is replaceable. It is a separate part that controls the timing of the defrost cycle. To say it doesn't come out is like sayig the water filter doesn't come out.

You first need to see if there is frost building up on the rear panel inside your freezer. This may be a defrost issue so I need you to at the least have a look to see if any frost is building like in this=> PHOTO You may also need to remove the rear panel of your freezer to expose the frost buildup as seen in this=> PHOTO
If you find frost building like the examples I listed the problem will be the Adaptive Defrost Control listed as part location 23 in the photo=> HERE
The adaptive defrost control board can be found here=> FRS26R4AW5 Defrost Control Board

The defrost heater is part location 14 and the defrost thermostat is listed as part location 21 found in the exploded view of the evaporator section=> HERE The next most likely parts to fail are the=> 5303918255 Defrost Heater Assembly

and the=> 5303918214 Defrost Thermostat

The automatic defrost cycle is not working in freezer. Can this just be low on freon and making it freeze up? I can defrost and refrigerator will work fine till it freezes up again.

Most times on your model it is the ADC or adaptive defrost control. Part number 13 in photo here=> MSD2756GEW Maytag Refrigerator Control Panel This is behind your controls inside your fresh food compartment.

When the fresh food compartment begins to get too cold is usually when the part #8 in that photo goes bad and that is called the auto air damper
61005971 Damper Control Assembly
More on that part next time. I believe you will be fine once the ADC is changed, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Fridge side not cold enough but freezer ok.

It is possible that your adaptive defrost assembly found inside the fresh food section and behind the control panel is defective. If not we need to check the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. Sea Breeze

Coil keeps freezing up

Hi, With the information you supplied i'm going to assume there is an ice build up at the rear of the freezer. Your problem is going to be with your defrost system. I will also assume you have the ability to repair this yourself. This is going to be one of three problems with your refridgerator, 1st thing to do is remove shelfs and panel in the back of the should see ice build up on the evaporator...don't worry get a hair dryer and melt the ice. Next locate the wires for the heater...using a multi meter test the heater for condinuity...if the heater is bad replace it, If the heater is good replace the defrost thermostat..the stat normally is a barrel looking part clipped onto the evaporator pipe. The last possible problem could be the evaporator fan, have you heard the fan running in the past few hours?..if you are not sure pull the panel out to where you can see fan and watch it over an hour to see if it turns. I have included links with pictures of what the parts you need to check are: defrost stat heaters evap fan. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. If you decide to get a repair guy in should not cost you any more then $120 - $200 depending on make/model/problem Good luck! P.s Please don't forget to rate my solution Thanks! Mike

Model # MSD2757AEW this is a side by side, the

Because you mentioned that last week you had an ice problem I need to ask was anything done to fix or check the defrost system? The number one reason for this is the Adaptive Defrost Control part number 61005988 If this is OK then we need to check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. The ADC is located inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel used to adjust the temperatures in the freezer and refrigerator. I will be here if you need my help, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Not cold

Inside the fresh food compartment there is an adaptive defrost control. If it is bad it will cause the evaporator coils to freeze and reduce cold air circulation throughout your refrigerator. You can unplug your refrigerator and remove the control panel as to view the board. Sometimes you will see burn marks but not always. You also can while unplugged remove the back panel in the freezer compartment to see if ice is present and if so you can defrost the ice and examine the defrost heater to make sure that it is ok. The part number for your adaptive defrost assembly is 61005988
I am using the model number above your post so please correct me if wrong. Model number MZD2766GES

Maytag Refrigerator MSD2756DE Coils are icing up

Please disconnect power from your refrigerator before attempting the following! You will likely need an adaptive defrost board for your refrigerator. The defrost thermostat and heater is only available as an assembly and can be checked while the unit is freezing by checking the resistance with a multimeter. there should be some resistance to the heater assembly but not infinite. If the resistance is high then the heater assembly will have to be replaced. Your model has an adaptive defrost board located in the upper right hand back portion of the control panel in the refrigerator side. This cover is removed by placing your fingers in the 2 indentations at the back of the cover one on the left and one on the right and pulling down and forward. Once the cover is off there are a couple of screws directly above the lights which have to be removed and a couple of hex head screws behind the number faceplate and on the back wall near the water filter. Once these are removed the whole housing will come down the board is at the far back right. It will either be a bare circuit board or a small white box. Just unplug it and replace it with a new one. This will correct 99% of the defrost problems on this line of refrigerators.
