Question about HP Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook
I removed and reinstalled the synaptics drivers but problem continued. I then reformatted the root drive and did a reinstall of the WinXP backups from the D drive. The computer still has trouble. When you use the touchpad or a USB mouse, the cursor goes everywhere but where you want it to go. It will function well around the perimeter for the screen but as you get into the middle, it has a mind of its own. Ideas?
The touch pad is shorted.
In technical terms. The capactive field of the X-Y Matrix is shorted. This should be open until you run your finger across it, but since it is shorted, the center is no longer function properly.
You may have to get a completely new top plastics, if the pad is a part of it. Earlier models were one piece.
