CompaQ V2000 touchpad/mouse problems

I removed and reinstalled the synaptics drivers but problem continued. I then reformatted the root drive and did a reinstall of the WinXP backups from the D drive. The computer still has trouble. When you use the touchpad or a USB mouse, the cursor goes everywhere but where you want it to go. It will function well around the perimeter for the screen but as you get into the middle, it has a mind of its own. Ideas?

The touch pad is shorted.  In technical terms. The capactive field of the X-Y Matrix is shorted. This should be open until you run your finger across it, but since it is shorted, the center is no longer function properly.
You may have to get a completely new top plastics, if the pad is a part of it.  Earlier models were one piece.

Cant turn off the touchpad on my compaq presario cq50 & it's driving me nuts. HELP!

Hi Madre - Looking at the manual I can understand your frustration.

To turn the touchpad on and off you have to use button #6 (see below). Most certainly not intuitive!

Compaq presario cq60 labtop- the touchpad mouse goes crazy!

os? vista, 7, x64??? ok lets get to a base point. you had a different mouse, is it still installed? Is the dongle still plugged in? are the drivers loaded? uninstall drivers in control panel. remove all traces of every other mouse, pad, pointers, etc from your cq60. in device manager you should show Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad under MICE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES. if after reboot the touchpad is still not working then right clock the Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad in the device manager and select uninstall. reboot. let me know when you get to that point.

Turned on my v2000 and the mouse pad is dead, wireless mouse works fine,

try reinstalling driver for touch pad. also do registry check sometime your registry gets scrambled and you lose devices as a result. run a registry program first. u can get one at www.majorgeeks.com for free. if that doesn't fix ya up reinstall the driver for the tft pad or mouse pad as u called it

Touchpad will not work

Hello, seems like a problem with the touchpad, first disable and enable the touchpad with the button which is located at the top of the touchpad, the corresponding LED should change from blue to orange and vice versa. If this doesn't solve the issue, reinstall the driver for the touchpad, you can find this by searching for 'recovery manager' in the start bar. Next step is to select 'advance options' and choose reïnstall hardware driver, there should be an option called 'Synaptics touchpad driver' select and install. kr Gijs

Touch pad is not working--COmpaq Presario B1900

Hold down the FN Key + F6 (OR the corresponding F key for the touchpad)

The B1900 can have its touch pad turned on and off.

Its a good feature when you just want to use an external mouse.

Hope this helps
