Whirlpool Duet was purchased December 2009 and lately has a strong odor. Does this front loader have a filter we can clean? Please advise how to get rid of this ongoing odor.

There is no filter but you might want to remove the bottom front cover and clean out the sump filter(a large white thumb screw attached to pump) turn to the left. After cleaning this out get a product called Affresh available at grocery and other stores. Put your unit on a clean cycle. If you can't find affresh try a cup of bleach and run that through a clean cycle. Another tip leave your door open when not in use

Mold smell comming from duet washer

Hi

Try using bleach with hot water, run a cycle with hot water and bleach. Or spray bleach +water mixture on the seal. Run a cleaning cycle with hot water and bleach or vinegar at least once a month to reduce the growth of mold in other parts of the washer. You can also try using 1/2 a cup of Washing Soda or 4 cups of baking soda Crystals and run the machine with no clothes in it. This would remove all the debris, lint & mold growth from the drain pump and drain filter. This would clean the mold from the door seal as well. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Cleaning the washer, since if door left closed, clothes, smell like mildew, know there is a solution.....lost my book and have done in the past

Run the machine thru a normal or quick wash cycle adding only bleach, but before starting clean out around the door bellows by wiping with bleach on a rag. This works quite sufficiently for most folks. If on a septic system you can also substitue bleach for "pure white vinegar" hope that helps good luck

CLEANING OUT CAT DANDER ETC FROM WASHER

Quenie, vinegar will not harm your washer at all. Place it in the detergent side of your dispenser and run a Hot wash cycle. Don't mix chemicals, though... if you choose to clean your machine with bleach, for instance, don't use additional cleaners along with it. Vinegar only, bleach only... you get the point.

You may want to run a "water only" Hot wash cycle with bleach (no clothing/towels) after your Son has finished his laundry. This may help alleviate your allergy problem.

For regular maintenance on your washer, you ought to try something like this. It'll keep your washer smelling great.
