From the Disney/Pixar Toy Story Mania! opening screen, press the 1 button on Player 1 Wii remote to start.
At the "How many players?" (color palette) screen, point to the number of players (1 through 4) and press the A button.
Point to the desired color for each player and press the A button on the corresponding Wii remote. The player's number will be displayed in the color (for example: 1 in yellow, 2 in purple). Point to the green arrow and press the A button to advance.
At the name entry screen (Mr. Spell), starting with Player 1, point to the letters and press the A button to select. Once Player 1's name has been entered, point to "Enter" and press the A button to advance to the next player.
When all players' names have been entered, you may select from Story or Freeplay mode to begin playing. Freeplay mode will only contain games that were previously unlocked in Story mode. For more information on Disney/Pixar Toy Story Mania! game modes, see the game manual.
To select a two player mode make sure two or more wii-motes are connected to the system.
When you start the game and select a song it'll prompt you to which
players are going to play. Assign each controller to the desired player
(some songs have the feture of having a 2 people choreography)

Remember the basic "adventure" mode doesn't allow for 2 players as it did in the past. Is it not recognizing the wii-mote at all? Perhaps start by syncing all the wiimotes to the system again and going from there. If it still doesn't work, you can do a step by step and post it here and I can do what you did on my console and see if there is an error with your game.
You have to start the game then press the home button on the remote. Go to WII and select the menu for the remotes. Click on reconnect. Press the 1-2 buttons on remote #1. When it lights up on the screen, press the 1-2 buttons on remote #2. Select close out remote settings, go back to the game. Select two players and each player can have his/her own remote.
Fixed problem. Had to sync the remote with the Wii system by pushing the red button by the batteries on the remote and the red button on the Wii console under the flap below where the disk is inserted - hadn't done that. Now HOTD works like a charm with 2 players.'
