Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-55XS955 55" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Sony Grand Wega KDF-60XS955 Picture comes on and then goes off.

The green on/off button flashes about 30 times when the picture goes off and then stays solid green when picture comes back on. The TV says it was manufactured in Aug 2005. I don't understand what is causing this. When it comes on, the picture looks normal and sounds normal. It stays on for approximately 10-20 seconds before it shuts down again. I don't believe it is a ventilation problem. It stands in a corner with about 3 feet of clearance. Please help!

You have a bad lamp. Sometimes when the lamp gets old, it doesn't fail and open like they usually do. Instead, the reflector gets cloudy, and instead of reflecting the light, it converts it into heat. As the lamp heats up, it draws more power, eventually to the point where the TV senses it drawing too much power and shuts down, going into a reset cycle. replace the lamp and use an original Sony lamp, as the aftermarket lamps are known trouble makers. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

Sony KDF-60XS955 picture goes and power/standby light light flashes

Hi,

Most likely you have bulb failure. First step in troubleshooting is "Change the Lamp or Bulb". Lightning, power line bumps and collisions with vacuum cleaners can all shorten lamp life. Rough handling in shipment can also happen without your knowledge.

+90% of all Sony LCD Rear Projector "No Picture or Intermittent Picture" faults are related to bulb failure.

If new lamp does not improve the situation, then hands-on troubleshooting by someone that has parts and knows how the unit works is the only practical remedy.

Goes off and on

I replaced the lamp today in my KDF-60XS955 and it has worked perfectly since then. I purchased the lamp from sony, costs more but I got the correct part. Might be your problem since I had similar symtoms. 30 green flashes and picture/sound cycled off and on about every thirty seconds. Good luck. Chrismickey
