Turn camera off! Take out battery!
Now, with NO Electrical contact or power in it, try to clean wine residue away from any moving parts with clean water and try drying unit slowly in front of a heater or hair dryer. If available, put a small amount of WD-40 in the same areas, making sure to wipe away any drainage or excess. Allow to dry overnight in warm area, pehaps by heater, but don't let it get too hot. Reinstall battery and turn it on.
It should work find now. Good Luck!

Turn the mode dial to the movie position and then turn the control dial to select the movie mode. Full details are in the "Movie Shooting" section of the manual (page 102 in my copy). If you need a manual, you may download it and more here.

I own a Nikon D-50 and this past saturday i spilled wine all over my bag, and my camera was in there. it did get wine on it, so at first it was really screwed up and ive been letting it dry and drying it...

A spill on an electronic device requires immediate wipe dry to prevent seepage into internal least accessible areas. Soon after the fluid is dried off, the electronic device should funtion as before. However, certain components may least require contact with fliuds. For cameras, the lens areas should be protected from very particles. Once the camera is wiped dry of the fluid, chances are that a refunctionality mode would be resumed. However, if being incapable of ascertaining the extent to fluid seepage, consult with a technical expert to open device for blow cleaning. The camera may simple still have particles obstructing snap shots since clearity is required to acquire photographs. refer to the cameras user guide about disgnosing malfucntions. Also, attempt to ascertain about the cameras warantee durations. The manufacturers is usually capable of replacing accident devices.

Wine spilled on camera

For sure your buttons are contaminated. About all one can try in this case is to take the camera apart and spray some electrical contact cleaner to try to clean it up as best you can. There are usually 5 or 6 very small phillip's head screws that hold the camera body together, but you will have to be careful taking it apart since the back of the camera is connected to the main board by ribbon connector(s). You can carefully lift the tabs on them, and disconnect them, then inspect the camera for areas that were possibly effected by the spill. Spray them good with the cleaner, and allow them to totally dry, before turning the camera back on. You can reconnect the ribbon cables to test the camera before putting it back together, and, with any luck, get it functional again. Oftentimes the damage is too severe to be remedied, even with a good cleaning, but there is always a chance. If you need to know more about the procedures of disassembling the camera, there are many videos on YouTube that show how, just looks for videos on "Digital Camera Repair". Sometimes you can get lucky and find your make and model, but they're all basically the same, with minor variations. Good luck, hope this helps, and hope you get it back into working condition!

Taking a movie

Ignore the movie mode setting on the dial. I am sure it does something, but I have no idea what. To start taking a movie, press the silver button with a red center on the back, to the right of the eyepiece. To stop the movie, press that button again. It doesn't seem to matter what mode the dial on the top is in.

Now if I can only figure out why mine got the E18 error and stopped functioning...

Lizzie,

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure that you had the camera set to the video recording mode? Several of the Canon digital PowerShots will show the movie icon on the LCD screen even when the camera is in image record mode. Why, I don't know. Ensure that you set the camera into movie mode by pressing your Func/Set button to go into the Function Menu and then selecting the movie mode that you want to shoot in. Press the Func/Set button again to get out of the Function Menu and you will not only see a movie camera icon on the LCD screen, but also a set of numbers in the bottom left hand corner representing the recording resolution (e.g. 640 pixels) and the frames per second (e.g. 30).

And just in case you did have the camera set in movie mode, make sure that you don't do what many people have inadvertantly done and mistake the video clip for a .jpg image in the playback screen. Videos will of course have the movie camera icon in the upper corner of the image and are viewed by pressing the Set button twice to begin the playback.

If both of these steps were performed properly then your camera may have a hardware issue. As a last resort, try performing a reset from within the menu just to be on the safe side and see if it makes a difference. If not you may need service. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

Wine spilled on camera - repair or buy new one

It would be quite difficult to bring this camera back. I would suggest buying a new camera and keeping it away from the wine. Even if you did get a quote you liked and decided to get the camera repaired it is unlikely that the technician would be able to restore it to pre-wine functionality. Movie mode function

The movie mode function allows you to record short movie clips. The recorded movies can be played back or stored as still images using the cameras index function. Please note that the D-390 does not record sound in the movie mode.
