Question about Philips Magnavox Learning Universal Remote

1 Answer

TV DOES NOT ALLOW CURRENT REMOTE TO SEE ALL CHANNELS USING SCAN

LONG GONE IS THE REMOTE THAT CAME WITH THE TV.
SEVERAL AFTER-MARKET REMOTES HAVE BEEN USED SINCE.

HOWEVER THESE REMOTES DO NOT SEE ALL CHANNELS AVAILABLE WITH OUT PUNCHING IN THAT SPECIFIC CHANNEL.

IS THERE A WAY TO TELL THE TV TO RE-SCAN ALL AVAILABLE CHANNELS?

Maybe there has been a disconnect with the TV recognizing the code of the remotes? Or, maybe you pressed a button on the remote that will not allow it to change the channels. I've done this in the past where I accidentally pressed, say the TV or DVD button, and when I turned the TV on and tried to tune in channels, the TV would not respond. Pressing the cable button (but that is on my remote) returned the remote to its ability to change the channels. You will just have to do trial n' error.

U can't do much on a universal tv remote.Only the basic mostly, like power on/off,channels up/down and volume up/down that about it.If u wanted more functions and controls and adjustments inside of the tv Menu for options like changing and adding functions.U must have the tv original remote to be able to do it.Try website like Remotes.com to buy the tv orignal remote.

Lost the remote control, how to i add in cable channels? it will only pick up 2-12 - when we had the remote i could add them in, now that it is gone, how do i do it? when i change channels manually or type...

The replacement for model indicated is rather expensive. What you will find is all Hitachi remotes made from 1999 to date will operate that set.

2-12 means the set is in the Air band and not the cable band. A lot of these remotes are readily available on EBAY and other places, I have several Hitachi remotes and all codes for all their regular tvs, projection, LCD, and Plasma use the same codes.

All you need is a remote that will go into the menu and allow you to select Cable and then go and do auto program.

I have a Hitachi remote for a 1991 projection set and it works on all later sets, only a few features are missing for certain models.

It is either this or try a universal, but I suspect a Universal will not do what you want.

Let me know if you have questions.

You can get an exact replacement remote here:
http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&uuid=12934695994610&smodel=27ST6210%20MASTER&brand_pn=PHILIPS_27ST6210%20MASTER for the master remote. A guest remote is also available from remotes.com (search with just the model number not the manufacturer).

I hope this helps.

(You may want to check for TV menu and channel search buttons near any front AV inputs. Not all TVs have this, but our old 27" CRT (built ~1990) had this option. You could launch a full scan and then edit the channel list with those buttons. Unfortunately, the manual went with the TV to the recycling center last year.)

I have a Toshiba TV/VCR/DVD combo, remote WC-FN2. I can turn the TV on,change volume but can not change channels. Help! Thanks,

Some tv remotes will do this if the TV is programmed to skip all but one channel (or the last scan for channels had only one active channel - like a tv connected to a set top box (3,4,60)).

See if you can navigate to other channels by typing in a channel number. Also check if the Tuner is the current source of the video signal by pressing the Source or Input button. If you have a menu button on the TV or the remote, try rescanning channels or editing the channel list.

I hope this helps.

I lost the original remote to my 27'' television

very sorry for that but you can be changing channel manually on the tv channel buttons, if you sweep on all channels you can go to AV from RF channels, that is before you buy a remote.

try to buy your remote from

DirecTV Setup Code

Satellite providers are pretty good at keeping their codes current on their websites;

http://2getdtv.com/directv/tv_codes.html

Your brand is listed with several to choose from.

If none of these work, there are dozens of 'learning remotes' on the market that allow you to use the original remote to program the new one.
Not all of them are perfect; research them first.
