Question about Delta TP300 Shopmaster 12-Inch Portable Planer

1 Answer

The wood will not feed on its own.

Both the feed rolls are working the way they should but no matter how lightly I adjust the cutters, it will not feed thru. Even trying to assist the piece thru with some light pressure doesn't help. I have cleaned the tables ( nothing there anyway) thinking that there may have been something holding the wood from sliding. The only thing I can come up with is that it may be too cold ( about 20f) in my garage for the rolls to grab the wood. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

the rollers should adjust with the Cutter Height adjustment, and should feed no matter what temperature. besides I usually don't remove more that 1/32" per pass anyways...You might try Cleaning your Rollers (Mineral Spirits) to remove any excess pitch build up, as the rollers should be Dry. You should be able to get the Feed Roller to Draw in the wood...just sounds to be like your trying to remove to much??

First things first. Open it up wide and take a look while you turn it on and off. Do the feed rollers actually turn? A broken drive belt or chain will keep them from feeding regardless of how much the cutterhead whines...
Assuming that's in order, I would get some paste wax and wax the heck out of the base where the wood slides. Then take a look at the feed rollers. (Unplug the machine!)
If they have crud built up on them you need to clean it off with denatured alcohol and a rag..If you don't use dust collection, this is likely to be the cause of poor feeding, as well as imprints on your freshly planed surface.
Also, be mindful of the direction of the grain on the side of the boards you're feeding through. If you were feeding boards from right to left of this page, the grain on the side should look like /////this instead of like \\\\\\\this, which will be more likely to tear out and harder to feed.
Other than that, I can only suggest that planing frozen boards may be a factor. They're bound to be denser...
Hope that if this doesn't solve your problem, at least it makes you smile...Good luck.

Replace the drive belt

Do you mean replacing the cutter head drive belt?

With power off start the ribbed belt on the motor pulley, insert allen wrench into cutter head shaft. slowly rotate cutter head while feeding belt onto cutter head pulley. While rotating head, alternate between pulleys feeding it on one rib at a time. Softening the belt in hot water is NOT necessary to install the belt in this fashion.

Delta tp 305 is sniping wood at both ends , is there a solution to this problem?

With any of these portable planers, the sniping can be a problem that you can minimize. Of course you can use a board longer than you need... but more practically: 1. Take light cuts 2. Make sure your infeed and outfeed tables are at the same height and are parallel to the suface of the machine below the cutter. 3. Provide additional in-feed and out-feed support beyond the little in-feed and out-feed tables to keep your material moving consistently in the same plane from start to finish. you might use support rollers. Take care to get the whole setup adjusted all in one plane. Good luck.

In the paper and quality options I have only sheet or CD/DVD to select from. Roll option is not showing

Hi,

The Roll Paper button cuts, feeds and returns paper to the printing position when the automatic cutter is used. When held down for three seconds, it reverses the roll paper out of the printer. The cutter can make either one cut precisely between images, two cuts with a margin between images or no cuts. The driver lets you select which method you prefer. The Utility program has an alignment option for the cutter that you should use whenever you reinstall the cutter.
Please let me know if this does not help else please accept it.

Sharp UX-184 Paper Feed

On inside of machine it states how to:
1. Place new paper roll on the left hub while pushing it in, lowering the roll into the compartment making sure it is inserted onto the right hub.
2. Pass the leading edge of the paper through the paper cutter guide and the cutter.
3. Remove any slack in the paper.
4. Close the cover. The paper will feed out automatically.

The paper rolls over top front to back.

Make sure that it is installed properly ... going under not OVER. Does the paper feed when the paper feed key is depressed ??

1. Lift the paper holder up.
2. Fold the leading edge of the paper roll 3 to 5 cm. (Do not fold it slantwise.)
3. Insert the paper roll from the left side of the paper holder and make sure the paper
roll is set in the proper direction (with the paper feeding from the bottom).
4. Insert the leading edge of the paper into the opening directly behind the print
mechanism.
5. Press the paper feed key and feed the paper under the edge of the paper cutter.
