my technika dvdfaw08, which is supposed to be xvid compatible and divx only plays half of my divx collection. I can't fathom out why. I am going to take it back to Tesco and change it for a better model. The previous model I had from Tesco, the Technika 1033 played ABSOLUTELY everything (all varieties of divx, xvid, mp4 at various bit rates). strange.

Use a program called Gspot to check if the file is XVID

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Then

use http://www.avirecomp.com/news.php to convert the file

take a few mins 5-10 max

or for most "FXG" branded files

Type the new codec in 'lower case' in the upper field and 'caps' in the lower. in this application

Goto the free site xvid and download free the software. in it is a bit of software that converts divx to xvid. this may work. trying it as it's free and the software will not do anything to the film converted just the header. as the images is the same. the header changes the postion of sound first to second and image first to second. so that it is in xvid . i.e why do you think xvid is divx backwards. nice one

First of all do you have the right kkind of dvd player?

I have a dvd player that plays DIVX movies, so I use Roxio software and burn a data cd of an avi. file. From my understanding AVI, DIVX, & MP4 can be read as a divx. Make sure you close you secission on the disc or it wont play.

Burned a movie on pc dvd player cant read disc

Most AVI files from the torrent network use codecs to compress the size of the file you are downloading, and most DVD players only support the basic DIVX codec. A way to get around this issue is to use Nero software on your PC to burn a Video DVD. Selecting this option will make the program decipher the data and write it to the dvd as a compatible format with your standard DVD player.

Burnt dvd not recognized on dvd player

Most DVD players of bigger brands do not support DIVXS with VBR sound only CBR sample sound.
Google on how to do this with free Virtualdub.
save sound as wav and reproces as divx with that wav file. Goes fast. Mostly the problem. You can recognize this when opening DIVX avi in Virtualdub and VBR warning comes on.

Most of that DIVX stufff has this problem and some cheap DVD player has no problem with it. Philips does however i.e.

Does not play divx/mpeg4 files on dvd disk!!

The player plays strictly DIVX files, but not variants like XVID (which today is more common since divx became not free).
Divx is actually the same than XVID. After spending days converting my files from xvid to divx, realized that changing only the FOURCC code of the files works.
Look for a program named videoinspector. It allows to edit the fourcc for a video file. for all xvid and variants change the fourcc of the files to DIVX. The change takes a second instead hours of conversion, and movies in xvid that used not to play on this device, now will be played without problems.

LG HT762 DVD Player won't play divx anymore?

Try to unplug the player for a few seconds and then plug it back. It should work again with the DivX files. I had an identical problem and since then, it works just fine.

DVD DOESNOT PLAY REAL PLAYER VIDEO

This model cannot play real player video files your model work on DVD, CD, and on the following compressed file formats:

Compression formats - MPEG1 , MPEG2 , DivX 3.11 , DivX 4.x , DivX 5.x , DivX 6.0

Your player can play only mpeg , avi , and divx, not real player .rm files. I don't think there are many DVD that can play real player files around.

DivX certified player cannot read DivX files on DVD+R

Is there a Divx logo on the player? Does this particular DVD player capable of reading DVD+R disks?

If you used the Divx converter program, there is a way to create a DVD in Divx format with menus. Did you use that particular program? If you didn't, you may have the DVD in a data format and the player can't read it that way.

Home burnt dvd will play on one machine and not the other. An old technika works fine, an expensive philips won't play, another new technika tells me it's the wrong disc

Newer units have protocols built into the firmware that prevent "piracy". Sometimes these new protocols will prevent a home burnt dvd from running. Hold on to the old technika as long as it will run because the newer models will not work on all of your home burnt dvds.
