Printer prints only in magenta after installing remanufactured color cartridge

I installed a remanufactured color cartridge and now my prints are all in magenta. The realignment page is not black and blue, but magenta and black and misses most of its print. Never had a problem with cartridges ordered directly from DELL, tried to save money and pay "only" $26.00 instead of over $30.00 plus shipping, now I'm at the end of my ropes.... I have removed the sticker and tape, took both, black and color cartridges out and back in, restarted computer, wasted tons of ink and paper in cleaning and realigning, still only printing in pretty pink... that's it! Anybody know what to do??? Please help, before I throw that printer out the window!!!! Eva :O

I am trying to help my mother-in-law figure out why her HP Deskject 940c color cartridge only prints in magenta. Her problem is a little different. Her color cartridge IS OEM HP, but her black cartridge is after-market. The printer prints in black GREAT but the only color that it prints is magenta. After reading a prior post I have concluded that HP will allow you to print successfully if you purchase their OEM products ONLY! I buy Canon and Epson printers - NEVER HP - as I can successfully print with after-market ink in both, with Canon being by far the most successful. For several years now I have purchased ink cartridges at a huge price savings from (I have NO AFFILIATION except as a customer with this company). It seems that the main reason there are after-market issues with HP products is due to the fact that the print head is imbedded in each cartridge as opposed to the print head being a replaceable (if needed) part of the printer as it is in Canon and Epson. i tryed to print a page full of blue and yellow and green and purple and pink but it came out all pink!

My 930C started misbehaving on a genuine HP cartridge.

I suspected low ink but there were no on screen warnings.

Replaced cartridge with a new ( not HP ) cartridge but the problem remained.

Previously operated OK on non HP cartridges.

Is it a flexible ribbon cable problem ??

  • Anonymous Feb 16, 2008

When I try to print in black, it prints black and magenta. When I try to print in color, it only prints blue and yellow. I've re-installed the driver, I've changed the color cartridge (twice!) and I'm fiddled with every setting I can find. No dice.

I have a dell all in one and only use a black cartridge, (there is a colour cartridge in the machine but it is empty and I don't use colour anyway), whenever I send anything to print to this printer a box will always show up on the computer screen giving me the option to print or cancel. I am sure there must be a way that when I send anything to print it will print automatically without giving the choice and I have to click on print or cancel, which is very time consuming.

Please help me get through my daily work faster..

My HP Deskjet 810C printer only prints magenta. Replacing the color cartridge, changing from using parrallel printing cable to using a USB cable, reloading drivers, aligning print, has not solved the problem.

The computer is mucking up so I tested the colours by writing a sentence and making all the words different colours, turqoise and green came out blue but nothing else showed and I think my dad would kill me if I put water (etc.) on the cartriges, let alone mess with the printer. Is there any little reason that could be behind the single-colour printing problem? Please reply asap because I've done my revision with pink words and I want them to stay that way!! Thanks

Mine was on two HP printers. A G55 and a 722c. I tried different cartridges and would get different colors. One would only do yellow and several magenta. Odd thing, I created a three box print out under Powerpoint with a single color fill in each, red, yellow and blue. The printouts would be with two of the three boxes filled with the same color and third blank. Not what I expected.

I used the hot water remedy suggested here and that fixed them.

Fill coffee mug ¼ full of water. Heat in microwave for 1 min 30 seconds. Remove coffee mug from microwave. Put tip (head) of cartridge in coffee mug for 15 minutes. Take cartridge out of coffee mug and hold tip (head) under hottest faucet water for a few minutes. Dab (do not WIPE) on a paper towel to see if all 3 colors are present. If they are - allow cartridge to dry for 30 minutes then put back in printer. If all 3 colors are not present - repeat process. Good Luck! It works GREAT for my DeskJet 840c - EVERYTIME!

I refill ink cartridges on site at my retail store. Sounds like the cartridges you bought got dried out (on the yellow and cyan outlets). Try taking a damp paper towel (not dripping wet) then take your cartridge and with the damp paper towel over your fingers--run the end of the ink cartridge over the paper towel. (where the ink comes out). This will 1. moisten the printhead, and 2. clean off any dried ink on the print head. One other thing you can do if this does not work...take the damp paper towel and set on something you do not mind getting ink on (cardboard box) then place the ink cartridge where the print head (where ink comes out) directly touches the paper towel. Check it in about 5 minutes--you should see a rainbow of the 3 primary colors--if not, it is clogged or dried out more then just at the print head. If this does not work...the ink cartridge needs additional cleaning. I use a sonic cleaner which works great. A sonic cleaner is similar to a jewelry cleaner--it vibrates the print head of the ink cartridge in a water just enough to cover the print head. This breaks loose any old or dried ink inside the print head. Either way-remanufactured work best when you can actually take them to a retail store that cleans and refills your original cartridges on-site. That is what I do at my store and have about a 95% success rate. Do not loose faith in remanufactured or refilling stores that sell these. Recycling can save you a lot and helps the environment. The success rate is still good (95%+) on remanufactured products. You just got one of those 5%. If you were my customer--I would clean it free and guarantee it to perform. Technically speaking your printhead might already damage or severely clogged, have you tried to conduct nozzle check, and how many times have you tried to execute cleaning, if you have tried it for four-up times there's notheing you can do but to call replace the printhead together with the pump cap assembly, yeah right pump cap assembly must be check if it still suck ink thoroughly during cleaning process.

Photosmart C5280. Instructions on photo cartridge 348 say remove both black and colour cartridges, then install photo cartridge in right hand cartridge holder. Printer screen then tells me to install...

Your printer uses the following cartridges:

HP 74 - Black ink
HP 75 - Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow ink
HP 99 - Photo Black, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta

You need Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, and Light Magenta to print photos. To accomplish this you install the HP 99 photo cartridge where your HP 74 black cartridge usually goes and you keep the HP 75 color cartridge where it's at. I don't know why your printer told you to remove both cartridges, then reinstall the HP 75 color cartridge.

Hp 2605dn Black cartridge is printing 1/8" LEFT of other colors.

That problem is frequently on HP 2600 series.
You must try to change all remanufactured toner cartridges with HP OEM with no exception, the best alignment it is when you change the black cartridge and the printer make a cleaning page process. Cartridge HP OEM should be almoust empty. It Is not necesarry to be a new one. After the alignment process, you can put the remanufacturated cartridges back on.
This was work for me. 100%

The lt magenta and magenta just quit printing between pages

1. Check if the cartriges are correctly installed:
Installing the Ink Cartridges

2. Print a diagnostic page and clean print heads, using the printer cleaning utility:
Color Mix or Missing Colors on the Diagnostic Page
Repeat if needed.

3. If this still doesn´t solve you problem, try resetting the printer and manually cleaning the cartrigdes as advised in this FAQ:

I haven't the manual for this printer color laserJet 2600n series,

document.tlSearch.tx.value=unescape("") s.gif s.gif
HP Color LaserJet 2600n Printer - Installing Print Cartridges When a print cartridge approaches the end of useful life, the control panel displays a message recommending that to order a replacement. The printer can continue to print using the current print cartridge until the control panel displays a message instructing to replace the cartridge. The printer uses four colors and has a different print cartridge for each color: black (K), cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). Replace a print cartridge when the printer control panel displays one of the following messages: Replace yellow cartridge, Replace magenta cartridge, Replace cyan cartridge, Replace black cartridge. The control panel display also indicates the color that should be replaced (unless a genuine HP cartridge is not currently installed). Change the print cartridge
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Open the front door. c00315320.gif CAUTION: Do not place anything on the transfer belt (ETB), which is located on the inside of the front door.
  3. Remove the used print cartridge from the printer. c00315321.gif
  4. Remove the new print cartridge from the bag. Place the used print cartridge in the bag for recycling. c00315322.gif
  5. Grasp both sides of the print cartridge by the blue handles and distribute the toner by gently rocking the print cartridge from front to back. CAUTION: Do not touch the shutter or the surface of the roller. c00315323.gif
  6. Remove the orange shipping locks and the orange shipping tape from the new print cartridge. Discard the shipping tape and shipping locks according to local regulations. c00315324.gif
  7. Align the print cartridge with the tracks inside the printer, and using the handles, insert the print cartridge until it is firmly seated. c00315325.gif
  8. Firmly close the front door. c00315326.gif
  9. Turn on the printer. After a short time, the control panel should display Ready.
NOTE: If a cartridge is in the wrong slot or is the wrong type for the printer, the control panel will display one of the following messages: Incorrect yellow, Incorrect magenta, Incorrect cyan, Incorrect black.
  10. Installation is complete. Place the used print cartridge in the box in which the new cartridge arrived. See the enclosed recycling guide for recycling instructions.
  11. If a non-HP print cartridge is in the printer, check the printer control panel for further instructions.
NOTE: When replacing or changing a black print cartridge, a cleaning page will automatically print. This helps prevent speckles on the front or back of printed documents. A cleaning page can also be generated using the control panel or the HP Toolbox.

Color problem

Chances are your othe cartridges were low...

When you install a new cartridge your printer does a head cleaning, and it uses alot of ink...

If the others were low, your printouts will show magenta as its the only color left...
