SETTING UP A BROADBAND CONNECTION First you need to decide what type of broadband and Internet service you require and these are - 1. DSL that uses your existing telephone line. 2. Cable that uses a cable service and can include a cable TV service. 3. A wireless 3G network uses the mobile/cell phone network and can be separate or combine with your cell phone account. This type of Internet connection uses an USB wireless device shaped like an USB memory stick. Note - Combined services generally offer discount pricing and may include a modem/wireless router.
If you use a wireless router with the DSL or Cable Internet service then your laptop with a wireless card can then connect to the Internet. You can also connect to a free WiFi hot spots like McDonalds, Star Bucks, the Airport etc. using the wireless card in your laptop. If you use the wireless 3G wireless broadband service, then you can access the Internet anywhere where your ISP has 3G wireless coverage. You need to check the service coverage area where you need Internet service. Once you decide what type of broadband your require, then you need to check with the various Internet Service providers to see if they can offer and the cost of the various plans. Note the download limits and the associated additional costs if you exceed the monthly download limits. Once you sign up with a Internet Service provider, their documentation will include setting up instructions and/or installation CD.
Connecting to the Internet over broadband is a popular solution for connecting to the Internet today. Broadband is a much faster solution for connecting to the Internet when compared to a standard 56k modem. Having more bandwidth allows you to do more exciting things on the Internet, such as watch movies, listen to music, and playing games, as well as much faster load times for websites.
Unfortunately, broadband service is not available in all areas.
But I know one website mungi they will provide internet in all over the world.
It allows you to stream the latest movies and television, browse your favorite websites and communicate with family and friends from across the globe. For more details click the best nbn plans...
I think the broadband connection you are using is not enabled for NAT ( Network Address Translation).
This is required to give internet access to more than one system through a single internet connection.
If NAT is not enabled or supported by your broadband router then you cant access internet through more than one system simultaneously.
Internet through your broadband connection is normally setup for single user. If you need to use multiple systems to be connected to internet then you need NAT (Network Address Translation) to be enabled. But unfortunately the D-Link DES-1008D doesnt support that.
I think you are trying to access internet through broadband. Normally the Broadband is configured for a single user, if you want to use multiple computers to a single connection then you need to use a technology called NAT ( Network Address Translation). This technology comes with all the Layer3 devices (Routers). You can purchase a NAT capable device and you can use 4-5 computers through a single connection to reach out internet.
Hi Susie With related to your particular issue it seems like that your broadband modem is not configured for the router. There are basically 2 types of connection. DSL and Cable modem. Verizon, ATT are DSL and comcast other providers give you a normal cable broadband connection. If its comcast make sure the cable from the comcast modem is going to the internet port in the linksys router and also make sure that there is a system connection the linksys router and the cable from the system goes to any of LAN 1, 2, 3 and 4 ports. Then reset your cable modem by using a pin and inserting to the reset hole in the modem. You could use the same step to reset your linksys router as well .If its a verizon or dsl connection you need to put normally your username and password in the router page. here is the link to how to configure linksys for your internet modem. Here is a video as well on it? http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=vSAXMO7aNzg http://tinyurl.com/5tqqhl
Also post the linksys router model. your ISP modem model number and also information on how many systems are wired to the router and wireless and let me know if you need more help.
You can still use your existing Linksys router with your cable modem. In fact the router your have is designed to work with DSL/Cable Broadband connections.
1. Make sure to properly connec the devices in your network. Modem will be connected to the Internet port of the router. Then, laptop will be connected to one of the 4 Ethernet ports of the router. For initial setup of your router with modem, you need to hardwire laptop to the router.
2. Press and hold reset at the back of the router for about 15 seconds.
3. After 15 seconds turn off the router and then turn off the modem. Wait for a minute.
4. Power on modem and wait for the lights to be ready.
5. When modem lights are on, turn on router.
6. There should be 4 lights on. Power should be steady green. Internet, WLAN and Ethernet port.
7. Checked if you have Internet connectivity on your laptop while it is wired to the router.
8. If Internet is working, disconnect laptop from wired connection to the router and check available wireless network that laptop can detect.
9. The default wireless network name that the Linksys router broadcasts is "linksys". Connect to it which is an unsecured wireless network.
10. Once you are successfully connected, check Internet.
In brief yes. 2 possible ways: 1. Use a router; or 2. Configure 1 of your PCs to be the Default Gateway and enable Internet Connection Sharing (this is where the single user broadband connection must be plug in). If your modem uses USB connection to the PC (Gateway), use the LAN card IP add as the Default Gateway of the other PCs in your network. If your modem uses the Ethernet port, you need to install a 2nd LAN card on the same PC and do the same configuration.
Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turns up or should you need additional information.
